Abstract
A pressing appliance for industrial use, and which includes a frame unit that is movable against a steaming table, the frame unit being designed to hold several garments at one time, such as sweaters, hot pants, or the like, so that mass production steaming is attained in order to increase production volume while saving on time.

A principle object of the present invention is to provide an improved steaming device for use with a conventional commercial steaming table, and which allows more than one garment to be pressed at one time, thus increasing production while cutting down on time.
Another object is to provide a steaming device which enables an operator to steam and shape two or more garments in a single application of steam.
Yet another object is to provide a steaming device that enables an operator to increase the quality of the merchandise due to more time being allowed for cooling the garment and yet maintain a faster production rate than an ordinary conventional steaming machines.
Yet another object, more specifically is to provide a steaming device that on a conventional steaming machine allows pressing four childrens sleeveless sweaters four at a time, or two or three at one time, the following items: ladies sweaters, skirts, hot pants, short pants, mini dresses, mens sweaters, ponchoes, shells, and all other knit goods.
Other objects are to provide a pressing device to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
To the accomplishment of the above and related objects, my invention may be embodied in the form illustrated in the accompanying drawings, attention being called to the fact, however, that the drawings are illustrative only, and that changes may be made in the specific construction illustrated and described within the scope of the appended claims.
FIG. 1 is a top view of the invention shown for steaming two short sleeve sweaters.
FIG. 2 is a detail of the mechanism.
FIG. 3 shows the device set up for three sleeveless sweaters.
FIG. 4 shows the device set up for hot pants.
FIG. 5 shows the device set up for two long sleeve sweaters.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a steaming device according to the present invention wherein the same is used on a steam table 11 having a top surface that is 30 by 60 inches, and which has a bar 12 along its front supported stationarily in downward stanchions 13. A series of angled levers 15 are pivoted on bar 12, the levers 15 being connected by adjustment screws 16 to a link 17 for length adjustment to swing a notched bar 18 having spaced apart notches 19, in any of which there may be selectively engaged frame holding clamps 20 adjustably hold a flat bar 21 integral with wire form 22 that is shaped to a particular garment such as 23 or 24.
As shown in the drawing, each holding clamp 20 includes a clamp element for clamping at a notch 19 of the notched bar 18, and it also includes another clamp element for clamping around the flat bar 21.
In the commercial manufacture of garments such as wool sweaters, hot pants, and the like, one of the final production steps is to steam the garments so that it makes a neat presentation to a purchaser. In operative use, an operator first fits a garment on each of the wire forms 22 which are at rest and pivoted vertically upright away from table 11. After the garments are all fitted thereupon, the operator grasps bar 18 in his hands and manually pivots it about the axis of bar 12 so that the entire device 10 rotates and brings all the garment fitted forms 22 is flat contact with the surface of table 11. This table surface consists of suitable fabric padding (through which steam may pass) being secured over a perforated table top panel that has perforated openings throughout its area and which communicate with a steam source from therebelow. The operator then with his foot depresses a first pedal that causes steam to be discharged from the perforated openings, the hot steam saturating the garments. He then releases the pedal thus stopping further steam dispensing. He next depresses a second foot pedal that allows a vacuum pump to suck the steam and steam vapors back down through the table perforated openings thus instantly cooling and drying the garments. The operator then again grasps bar 18 with his hands and manually pivots device 10 back to the original position wherein forms 22 are upright so that the steamed garments can now be removed. The device is now ready for repeating the process with a next group of garments. It is to be noted that the garments thus steamed assure an ironed or pressed appearance by keeping the shape that they had while on forms 22.
It is now evident that different numbers of forms 22 can be carried on the notched bar and they are fully adjustable so that a maximum of various garments can be steamed at one time.
While certain novel features of my invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claim, it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions, and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed as new and I desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device for mass production garment steaming, the combination of a steam table having a top surface, a stationary horizontal bar supported by stanchions in spaced relation below a forward edge of said table, a plurality of angled levers supported pivotably on said bar, each said lever being adjustably connected to a link, said links all being connected to a common notched bar, a series of holding clamps being engaged upon said notched bar, each one of said holding clamps being selectively engageable at any one of the plurality of equally spaced apart notches formed along one edge of said notched bar, a plurality of flat bars being held by said holding clamps, a wire form integral with each one of said flat bars and having a shape for a specific garment to be fitted thereupon, said wire forms being in a common fiat plane whereby when said angled levers are pivoted about said horizontal bar, all said wire forms are simultaneously pivotable between a vertical position away from said top surface of said table for placement or removal of said garments and a horizontal position in contact with said table top surface for steaming of said garments.
Claims (1)
1. In a device for mass production garment steaming, the combination of a steam table having a top surface, a stationary horizontal bar supported by stanchions in spaced relation below a forward edge of said table, a plurality of angled levers supported pivotably on said bar, each said lever being adjustably connected to a link, said links all being connected to a common notched bar, a series of holding clamps being engaged upon said notched bar, each one of said holding clamps being selectively engageable at any one of the plurality of equally spaced apart notches formed along one edge of said notched bar, a plurality of flat bars being held by said holding clamps, a wire form integral with each one of said flat bars and having a shape for a specific garment to be fitted thereupon, said wire forms being in a common flat plane whereby when said angled levers are pivoted about said horizontal bar, all said wire forms are simultaneously pivotable between a vertical position away from said top surface of said table for placement or removal of said garments and a horizontal position in contact with said table top surface for steaming of said garments.
