PUMP.
SPECIFIC T ON forming part0; Letters Patent No. 381,212, dated April 1-1, 1888.
Application filed November 29, 1887.: Serial No. 256,382. (No ,model.)
i To all whom it may concern.-
Be. it known that we, WILLIAM H. BURN- HAM and JOHN H. MILLER, citizens'of the United States, andresidents of Batavia, in
5 the-county of Kane and Stateof Illinois, have s I invented new andv useful Improvements in Pumps, of which the followingis a specificatio,n, referencebeing had to the accompany- 4 ing drawings, illustrating the invention, in
which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a pump in which is embodied our invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of the lock which is employed to hold thevalve in position to change the div I 5 rection of water, also showing a portion of thepump-pipe. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional elevation of the valve-chamber and connecting-pipes; Fig. 4, an enlarged plan view I --.of the clutch by which the lower way-pipe is.
' attached; Fig. 5, a broken longitudinal section of the clutch and flanged pipe therein.
This invention relates to an improvement in mechanism for discharging water from a twoway pump and. its nature consists, in brief,
in a two-way-valve chamber .placed exterior to the pump proper and the valve therein, op
erated by exterior mechanism, and a discharger Y f pipe .held inposition between the valvechamber and a clamping-cap or clutch-plate,
" 0 whereby the lower discharge-pipe mayproj ect in any desired dir.ection,"and the valve f may be removed by removing the clutch-plate, as the whole is hereinafter fully described and shown. 1
A represents the pump, which is of ordinary construction. I, 1
. O is the handle,'-pivoted to the pump-rod D, A which may be connected with a windmill.
E isthe air-pipe. B is the upper discharge- 0 pipe, and S is thelower'discharge pipe.
M is a chamber for thetwo-way valve. c is the supply-pipe, and n is the short'hori- .berM.
"slots b b.
zontal pipe connecting it with the valve-chamdis the rod attached'to the valvef, and H represents the lever connecting with the rod at e." The inner'end of the lever is pivoted to a standard, F, whereby by raising and lowering the lever water may passout' through pipe. SorB. M
Pivoted to the lever His a'double lock, W,
which holds the valve f up by meansfof the catch it resting on the top of the stop lon the upper portion of pipe B, and holds the valve down ,by means of the catch 9 catching under the stop Z. V chamber M is provided with a seat, '10,. which is the reverse counterpart of the detachable clutch m, wherebythe pipeS may project inl any desired direction and be clamped between the parts 1) m, so as to form a water-tight joint, by means of bolts a, which are placediin the quired, indifferent directions in contradistinction to securing the pipe S by a screw-thread so strong or tight a joint as. is necessary.
We claim Patent The lever H, the pump A, dischargerpipe 55.- The underportion of the"valve I I This is a very desirable construc- I tion for supporting the pipe S toproject, as re- 1 which, when the pipe is turned, does notf0rnl 7 I Q B, provided with the'stop Z, discharge-pipe S, valve f, rod (1, and a lock, W, provided with catches h g, incombinatio'n with the exterior valvechamber, M, provided with the seat p, and the clutch-plate m, for securinglthe discharge-pipe S, soas to project in any desired position, as-specified.- a v.
