Abstract

A lock strike having a movable pin extending through a hole in the strike. The pin, when fully extended, passes through a hole in the bolt of the associated lock. With the pin passing through the strike and the lock bolt, the bolt is secured in the strike prohibiting opening of the lock. When secured, the lock cannot be opened by a key or by picking or by a simple intrusion tool.

FIG.2A
FIG.'2V
INVENTOR.
LEW/5 5. MA 55/5 7 z 714% PIN LOCKED LocK STRIKES This invention relates to lock strikes which provide a means for retaining the lock latch, or bolt, from being withdrawn from the strike.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a lock strike incorporating a movable pin which secures the lock latch, or bolt, in the strike, thus prohibiting movement of the latch or bolt while the pin is engaged in the latch or bolt.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a lock strike which reinforces the door frame so as to resist overcoming the door lock assembly by force.
The nature of the invention and the principles embodied herein will be best understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrate the performed form of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of the lock strike with the lock pin engaging the lock bolt or catch and FIG. 1A is a sectional view along line AA of FIG. 1.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of a modified form of a lock strike and FIG. 2A is a sectional view along line 2A of FIG. 2.
FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view of the lock strike, the lock bolt, and associated structures of the FIG. 1 and 1A structure.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, the numeral 1 designates a lock strike which is secured to the door frame by screws 2. A hole, 5, extends from the front edge, 3, of the strike through to the bolt or catch aperture. A pin, 4, passes through hole 5 and through the bolt or catch 6 by hole 7. Fig. 1A is a section AA through FIG. 1 and shows the pin 4 extending through the strike 1 and the lock bolt or catch 6. The strike should be of metal and of a thickness that provides adequate edge margin for the hole 5 so that it exits within the bolt cavity and is not accessible from the outside of the door. Holes in the lock strike should be large enough to accommodate screws long enough to pierce the door frame trim and enter the door support structure, the stud, or metal frame.
The relationship between the various parts of the strike and the lock bolt, or catch, are further clarified in the exploded perspective drawings of FIG. 3.
In FIGS. 2 and 2A is shown a sheet metal lock strike 3 with the pin 4 extending through spaced parts of the strike and a portion of the jamb.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions, and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed l. A strike plate having an opening formed to receive a latch bolt, and a latchbolt-camming portion; spaced strike plate parts, one extending from adjacent said latchbolt-camming portion, the other extending from adjacent said opening; said strike plate being mounted on a jamb member with a portion of the jamb lying between said parts and said opening providing latchbolt access to a recess in said jamb member; and a pin associated with said strike plate and sized to be removably inserted into opening'means through said strike plate parts and said jamb portion and into said jamb member recess for locking a latch bolt or catch when engaged through said strike plate.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein said one strike plate part is formed from the material of said latchboltcamming portion.
3. The structure of claim 1 where said other strike plate part extends into said jamb recess.
4. The structure of claim 1 in combination with a latch bolt positioned to be extended into said recess and having an aperture structured to receive said pin to lock said latch bolt in said strike plate.

Claims (4)

1. A strike plate having an opening formed to receive a latch bolt, and a latchbolt-camming portion; spaced strike plate parts, one extending from adjacent said latchbolt-camming portion, the other extending from adjacent said opening; said strike plate being mounted on a jamb member with a portion of the jamb lying between said parts and said opening providing latchbolt access to a recess in said jamb member; and a pin associated with said strike plate and sizEd to be removably inserted into opening means through said strike plate parts and said jamb portion and into said jamb member recess for locking a latch bolt or catch when engaged through said strike plate.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein said one strike plate part is formed from the material of said latchbolt-camming portion.
3. The structure of claim 1 where said other strike plate part extends into said jamb recess.
4. The structure of claim 1 in combination with a latch bolt positioned to be extended into said recess and having an aperture structured to receive said pin to lock said latch bolt in said strike plate.
