Be it known that I LEWIS B. Moa'rs, residing at Jamestown, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, a citizen of the United States, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Carriage-Olips, of which improvements the fol lowing is a specification.

The invention herein relates to certain iniprovementsin clips employed in securing thills or poles to carriage-axles and in devices for connecting the clip and thill or pole, and has for its object such a construction of the clip and its connections as will permit of the easy and rapid attachment and removal from the carriage-axle; and to this end the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
The clip 1 consists of a block of metal having an enlargement, 2, at one end, in which is formed a rectangular opening, 3, having its inner wall inclined, as shown in Fig. 1. In the upper face of the clip is formed a transverse groove, 4., for the reception of the axle 5, the clip being held in position on the axle by the band 6, of the usual form and construction. To the ends of the thill or pole 7 is bolted in the usual manner the bifurcated block 8, provided with the depending lug 9, having a width equal to that of the rectangular openingin the head 2 of the clip. The outer face of the lug 9 is recessed, as shown in Fig. 1, thus forming a rib, 10, at the lower end of the lug.

The wedge is held in position by a wire passing through the lower end of the wedge or by any other suitable device.
The construction above described is especially adapted for use where it is desirable or necessary to remove the thills or poles in or der to store the carriage or other vehicle.
I claim herein as my invention 1. The combination of a carriage-clip rigidly secured to the axle and provided with a slotted head, a block havinga pivotal or hinged connection to the carriage thill or pole and provided with a depending lug constructed to fit in the slot in the clip-head, and a wedge, substantially as set forth.
2. A carriage-clip adapted to be rigidly secured to the axle and provided with a slotted head, in combination with a block having a pivotal or hinged connection to the carriage thill or pole and provided with 21. depending lug, recessed as described, and a wedge, substantially as set forth.
