LACE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,968l dated March 27,1888. Y Application led September 7, i885. Serial No. 176,323. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABEAM S. MANN, of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement inv Lacings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the drawings accompanying this application.
My improvement relates to lacings for gloves, corsets, shoes, &c. and it consists of a device for securing or fastening the ends of the lacing-cords when drawn up taut.
The invention consists in the combination, with the articlel to be laced and with the lacing cord or cords, of a button with beveled sides secured on the outside of the fabric and a stiff disk on. the inner side, the two being placed in juxtaposition and attached close together, thereby forming a wedgeshaped space between them, into which the cord is drawn, and is held by the rigidity of the two bodies, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
'In the drawings, Figure l is a face view of a glove with the lacing-applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a diagram showinga plan view of the fastening device enlarged. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, but showing a modication.
The drawings show 'a glove to which the lacing is applied. The lacing-cord ais passed alternately around the studs b b, as usual, and
is drawn up and fastened at the top. It may be applied to corsets, shoes, or analogous articles in similar way, and, if desired,-two or more lacing-cords may be used.
My improvement is asfollows:
c is a button or similar device fastened to the outside of the fabric at the point where the cord is to be drawn up. The button or head is formed upon one side with a conical part, d, and a plain or fiat central part, e, Fig. 3.
beyond the perimeterv of the fiat parte, the
button and disk when thus arranged including between them a conical annular space, into which the lacing-cord may be wound by givv ing it two or three turns around the button on the outside, no other fastening being required, and the coils of the cord holding by their own binding and contact. It is necessary to secure the button and disk together so'rmly that there shall be no yielding between them, and a convenient way is to .use a single rivet or holder, as shown lin Fig.l 3, or a double one, as shown in Fig. 4. Any other suitable means may be used.
The above forms a more secure and convenient fastening than the clasps and hooks now generally inuse, and also the studs heretofore used for a similar purpose.
I disclaim a fastening conslsting of two spring-plates connected by a rivet.
What Iclaim as new isl The herein-described fastening for the ends of lacing-cords, comprising a button having av ,Y
plain upper surface, 'an inclined or frustoconical under portion terminating in areduced fiat bearingesurface, in combination with suitable fastening devices, and a rigid washer kor disk secured to the under surface of the material, said disk or washer being larger than the under bearing-surface of the button, substantially as described. l
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed myname in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses. v ABRAM S. MANN. Witnesses:
R. F. OsGoOD, J Aeon SPAHN.
