A'IENT ALBINE \VISEMAN, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
REPAI RERS LAST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,434, dated March 13. 1888.
Application filed January 13, 1888. Serial No. 260,650.
To rtZZ whom it mag} concern:
Be it known that I, ALBINE WIsEMAN, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and use- -ful Improvement in Repairers Lasts, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings.
The object of my inventionis to produce an improved iron multiple last for boot and shoe repairers use, the invention being hereinafter fully described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
This device may be made with three or four lasts, as may be desired.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 shows an elevation of the device when formed with four full-length lasts; and Fig. 2, a view of the same, seen as indicated by arrow :0 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the device when formed with three lasts; Fig. 4, a view of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the view being taken as indicated by arrow y, and Fig. 5, a cross-section taken on the dotted line z in Fig. 4, and viewed as indicated by the arrow pointed on the dotted line.
Referring to the parts shown in the drawings, A B O D represent lasts at the ends of the respective arms a b c d. The arms ab are parallel and in the same plane, and the arms 0 d are also parallel and in the same plane, said planes forming a right angle. The arms a and c are also in a plane, and the arms I) and (Z are in another plane, which two latter planes being parallel, said pairs of arms a c and b 01 being joined rigidly by a bar or tie, e, the whole device being formed in a single casting.
The device when formed with four lasts pre: sents the soles of two of them upward to be used by the workman, the various lasts of the device being formed of different sizes. In the form shown in Fig. 3, instead of the arms?) and d, I form a last, E, at the end of the bar c. This form of device when used is intended to be turned in three different directions,or upon one of three different sides corresponding to three adjacent faces of a cube. In either position the sole of one last is presented upward for use. In these forms of the device the toes (No model.)
of the various lasts are turned toward each other.
These devices are intended to be placed upon a table or work-bench when used; and as a means to have them rest fairly upon the table, so as to be stable under the blows of the workmans hammer, I form them with faces f g h 1', corresponding to different faces of cubes, said faces being opposite the respective lasts A B O D and at right angles to the axes of the respective arms a b c d. The faces f h of the form shown in Fig. 3 correspond to the thre adjacent faces of a cube.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4, the heels of the various lasts are in the same planes with certain ones of the faces f g h t, which act as supports for steadying the device in its different positions, depressions Z n at being purposely formed so that the device shall touch the table only at the surfaces fg h i and said heels of the last-s.
In the form shown in Fig. 3 the heels of the lasts 0 and E and the face f touch the surface of the table while in one position, and if the device were turned in a direction over from the observer the heel of the last A, the face h, and the side of the last E (atp) would simultaneously bear upon the table and hold the device stable. If the device were turned to the left, the face It and the edges 1' s of the lasts A 0 would bear upon the table.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A multiple last device consisting of a pair of arms, a c, in a plane, and a similar pair of arms, b d, in another parallel plane. said pairs of arms being joined by a rigid tie, e, and each of said arms terminating in afulllength last, substantially as shown.
2. A multiple last device consisting of a pair of arms, a c, in a plane, and a similar pair of arms, b d, in another parallel plane, said pairs of arms being joined by a rigid tie, e, and each of said arms terminating in a last, the arms a and b of said pairs occupying a plane and the arms 0 and d of said pairs occupying another plane at right angles to the plane of said arms a and b, substantially as shown and described.
3. Ashoe-makers repairing-last consisting of three radial arms at right angles with each of two of said lasts being in the plane of other each terminating in a full-length last, another of said faces, substantially as shown the part from which said arms radiate being and. described.
formed with three faces corresponding to the ALBINE WVISEMAN. 5 three adjacent faces of a cube, the edges of Witnesses:
the soles of two of said lasts being in theplane E. B. XVHITMORE,
of one of said faces and the ends of the heels M. L. MODERMOTT.
