To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOAQUIN A. LOPEZ, a citizen of the Republic of Cuba, residing at Banes, in the Province of Oriente, Cuba, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shoe holding devices, and is particularly directed to the provision of means associated with the shoe holding member of a polishing stand to engage the shoe, and hold it against movement during the operation of cleaning and polishing it.

It is an object of the present invention to provide such holding means for the shoe engag ng members wherein they are efficiently held, and resiliently movable so that a shoe may be readily engaged between and gripped thereby.

It is further the object of the invention to provide such a device which is of such simple design that it may be manufactured at a minimum cost consistent with durabil ty and efliciencv of operation. and to this end it is more particularly the object to provide such a shoe gripping member which may be stamped from a single sheet of metal.

WVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring noW more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 5 designates the usual shoe holding plate of a boot black or polishing stand from the sole portion of which depends a lug 6 carrying a transverse bolt 7 which holds the gripping members of the device. Each of these gripping memhers is formed of a single oblong sheet of metal having one end portion thereof bent laterally at 8 to form a shoe engaging arm. The plate is slotted adjacent its side, and has its bodv portion bent at right angles to form a substantially horizontal section 9 disposed adjacent the under face of the shoe holding plate, and a vertical section 10 apertured at 11 to slidably receive the hold ing bolt. Those portions of the plate outwardly of the slots are bent in an opposite direction to form handle sections 12 whereby the gripping members may be readily manipulated. These handle sections also serve as a brace means for the horizontal portions 9, and as a guard for the ends of the bolts. The bolts have their outer ends threaded at 13 and nuts 14 are p ovided on these ends which adiustablv hold expansile springs 15 bearing thereagainst and against the vertical portions 10 of the g ipping members to urge these gripping members inwa dly.

The gripping membe s are held against turning on the shaft 7 by the engagement of their po t ons 9 with the bottom face of the shoe holding plate.
