Description
(No Model.) 8 8 G. MILES.
WHIFFLBTREE ATTACHMENT. I No 879,289. Patented Mar, 18', 1888.
UNITED STATES ATENT @rricn.
GIDEON MILES, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI,
WHIFFLETREE ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,239, dated March 13, 1888.
Application filed September 1, 1587. Serial No. 248,544. (No model.)
To (4Z5 whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, GIDEON MILEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attaching Single and Donble Trees; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inven tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in attaching singleand double trees; and the object of my improvement is to provide, first, a singletree that will not give or sag forward under heavy strain; second, that will be comparatively noiseless when in use; third, that will be stronger and safer than any heretofore constructed. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents the singletree attached to one end of donbletree; Fig. 2, the plate on top of singletree with projection or pin; Fig. 3, the ordinary male plate as commonly used with single and double trees; Fig. 4, the ordinary female plate as commonly used with sin gle and double trees; Fig. 5, the loopbar extending under doubletree; Fig. 6, the clevis that extends around single and double trees.
Similar letters refer to similar pa ts th rough out the several views.
As will be readily seen, singletree A is held in place on doubletree B by means of clevis 0. Upon the top of singletree A is singletree-plate D, upon the top of which and cast as a part of the plate is a projection or pin, K, similar to a part of a bolt, with flat end or head, which pin extends through an aperture or hole in clevis C at L. Clevis G is held in position at lower ends by loop-bar E under doubletree B, the ends of clevis C passing through holes F F in loop-bar E, loop-bar E and clevis 0 being drawn and held suiiiciently tight around the single and double trees by means of nutsG G, screwed on the two ends of clevis O.
Singletree A works smoothly upon doubletree B by the aid of a pair of ordinary male and female plates, Figs. 3 and 4, attached in usual way to single and double tree, the entire combination herein described rendering unnecessary the weakening of both single and double tree by boring hole for bolt to pass through them.
In place of the doubletree, the cross-bar of shafts may be used.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an attachment for connecting single and double trees, the combination of clevis 0, top plate, D, with pin K, loop-bar E, and nuts G G, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In an attachment for connecting single and double trees, the combination of clevis 0, top plate, D, pin K, loop-bar E, male and female plates, and nuts G G, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In an attachment for connecting single and double trees, the combination of a top plate with pin, a clevis with hole at center of curve or top, in which pin works, and threaded at lower-ends for nuts, a pair of ordinary male and female plates, a loop-bar, and all necessary nuts and screws, substantially as and'for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. GIDEON MILES.
Witnesses:
A. M. LORENTZ,
JULIUS WIEHL.
