UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn.
THOMAS G. CANTRELL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO LEON C. MARSHUTZ, OF SAME PLACE. 9
ORE-FEEDER.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,099, dated March 6, 1888.
Application filed August 19, 1887.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS G. OANTRELL, acit-izen of the United States, residing in the clty and county of San Francisco and State of'California, have invented certain new and "that was patented on the 24th day of August,
The accompanying drawings show in Figure 1 a side elevation of a Kendall oscillating mill and my improved feeder combined with it for operation. Fig. 2 is a front view of the tray and hopper and the upper part of the crushing-chamber. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section, on a larger scale, taken through the hopper and tray.
Similar letters vof reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
A is the feeder-hopper, which is fixed by suitable ears or lugs to the side of the overhead tinibers of the mill-frame, and B is the tray, suspended directly beneath the mouth of the hopper from eyebolts C D by rods and bails E F. The back and sides of the tray in close the lower end of the hopper, and the edge of the front opening or mouth stands at suitable height above the tray-bottom.. The supports at the'rear consist of the bail F, passing under the tray and connected by hooks on the upright ends to the eyebolts at the sides of the hopper. The support at the front is the bail E, passing under the front of the tray and suspended by the rod from the eyebolt E on the frame.
G is a bumper-rod on the tray, projecting in line with a stop, H, on the top of the mill. It is made adjustable to meet the stop earlier or later in the motion of the mill, and the length Serial No. 247,392. (No model.)
of movement produced by the contact of the stop with the projecting bumper can thus be regulated at pleasure. Such variation in the motion of the tray under the hopper produces greater or less discharge of ore from the end of the tray into the mill, and, as will be readily understood, the same is increased by setting the end of the bumper-rod Gr forward to meet the stop. or is reduced by settingit back. For this purpose the bumper-rod is furnished with a screw-threaded portion, g, working through a threaded nut, I, on the bottom of the tray, and with a crank, G on the rear end for setting it.
The stop H is bolted down to the top of the board or cover of the crushing-chamber, and as the bumper-rod is adjustable the stop can be fixed in place. The feeder is combined in this manner with a mill of the oscillating or rocking kind, and when in operation the feed is regulated from time to time by increasing or reducing the throw of the tray. It is mounted on the frame of the mill in position to bring the discharge end of the tray over the opening in the top of the crushing-chamber, with the end of the bumper-rod in line to be acted on by the stop on the mill.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A feeder for crushing-mills of the oscillating or rocking kind, consisting of a suitable hopper, the tray suspended beneath its mouth, and the bumper-rod projecting from the front of the tray and adapted to be struck by a fixed stop on the mill in the oscillations thereof.
2. The combination of the hopper A, swinging tray B, the bumper-rod G, having a crank and projecting in front of the tray, and afixed stop on the mill.
3. In combination with a crushing-mill of oscillating or rockingkind, the hopper mounted on the mill-frame above the crushingchamber, the swinging tray suspended under the hopper having the extensible bu mper-rod G, and a stop, H, on the mill, substantially as described, for operation as set forth.
4. The combination of a crushing-mill of the oscillating or rocking kind and a feed- In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hopper mounted on a suitable frame, the have hereunto set my hand and seal.
swinging tray suspended between the hopper and the feed-opening of the crushing-chain THOMAS CANTRELL' 5 her, and provided with a projecting bumper- \Vitnesses: I
rod, G, and a stop, H, on the mill, suhstan- CHAS. E. KELLY, tially as described, for operation as set forth. 0. W. M. SMITH.
It is hereby certi fied that Letters Patent No. 3'1 9,999, granted March 6, 1888, upon the application of Thomas G. Cantrell, of San Francisoo,'Galifornia, for an improvement in Ore-Feeders, was erroneously issued to Leon 0. Marshutz as assignee of the entire interest in said invention; that said Letters Patent should have been issued to Thomas G. Cantrell and Leon 0. Marshatz jointly, said Marshutz being assignee of onehalf interest only, as shown by the assignments recorded in this Oflice; and that said I Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Oflioe.
Signed, countersigned and sealed this 1st day of May, A. D. 1888.
D. L. HAWKINS, Assistant Secretary of the Interior.
