UNITED STATES PATENTS 1,640,417 8/1927 Marks 46/215 4 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures 1 TOY VEHICLE PUMPER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Small children enjoy playing with small toy vehicles which simulate their full sized counterparts. One relatively novel and uncommon vehicle is a pumper such as used by forest rangers to carry and discharge water to aid in extinguishing fires.
The object of the present invention is to provide a toy vehicle which simulates such a pumper even to the extent where it can carry water and discharge it in a forced stream through a hose.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention broadly comprises a miniature toy pickup truck with a tank for holding water mounted in the truck box, the tank having a pump chamber formed therein with an inlet and an outlet and a discharge hose connected to the outlet and a pressure pumping means on the chamber adapted to force water from the chamber out through the discharge hose. The chamber has a valve on the inlet. The pumping means comprises a pressure bulb in the top of the chamber which when manually depressed will cause the valve to close and force water in the chamber out through the hose and when released will allow the valve to open so that water will be drawn from the tank through the inlet into the pump chamber.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a side elevation of a miniature toy truck embodying the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the pumper.
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section through the pumper taken on line 33 of FIG. 2.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now more particularly to the drawings reference numerals will be used to denote like parts or structural features in the different views. The number denotes generally a miniature toy truck having a chassis 11 supported on ground wheels 12. A cab 14 and an upwardly opening truck box 15 are mounted on the chassis 11. The structure as thus far described is identical to a conventional toy pickup truck.
The number 16 denotes generally the pumper unit which is carried within the box 15. Unit 16 has a tank member 17 and a cover member 18. The tank member 17 has a tray portion 19 which fits snugly within and provides a liner for the truck box 15 and an upright rectangular wall 20 adapted to contain a small amount of water W.
A funnel-shaped pump chamber 28 depends downwardly from the top 21. This chamber is circular in horizontal cross section and the open upper end is closed by a pressure bulb or cap 29 of resilient material such as rubber. The lower end of chamber 28 has an inlet 30 which is closed by a ball 31. An outlet nipple 32 on chamber 28 has one end of a flexible hose 34 connected thereto. Hose 34 extends from the nipple 32 rearwardly through a collar 35 in the rear portion of top 21. A spiral spring 36 held under slight longitudinal compression encircles the hose 34 between the nipple 32 and collar 34. The rear portion of top 21 is configured at 38 to simulate a hose reel enclosed within a rectangular wall 39 and beside the reel 38 an opening 40 is provided in the top to facilitate filling tank member 17 with water.
In use the tank is filled through opening 40 to a level somewhat below the top of wall 20. Some of the water will enter inlet 30 and rise within the pump chamber 28. The chamber may be primed by depression and release of bulb 29. When the pump chamber is filled with water as shown in FIG. 3, depression of bulb 29 will cause water from the chamber to be forced outwardly through outlet nipple 32 and hose 34 in a fine stream. Ball valve 31 will prohibit any escape of water through inlet 30. As the bulb 29 is then released it will pop upwardly to the position shown in FIG. 3 and the vacuum in the chamber will cause replacement water to be drawn from the tank upwardly through inlet 30 into the chamber to be ejected with further pumping operation.
Having now therefore fully illustrated and described our invention, what we claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A toy pumper comprising,
a. a miniature toy truck having an upwardly opening truck box,
b. a liquid tank mounted in the truck box and having an opening in the top thereof for filling the tank with water,
0. means forming a closed chamber within the tank and having an inlet and an outlet,
d. a valve in the inlet permitting water to pass from the tank into the chamber but not in a reverse direction,
e. a discharge hose connected to the outlet, and
f. a pump means on the chamber for forcing water from the chamber out through the discharge hose.
2. The subject matter of claim 1 wherein said pump means comprises a pressure bulb of flexible resilient material mounted in the top of the chamber.
3. The subject matter of claim 1 wherein said chamber has a funnel-shaped lower portion with the inlet at the bottom thereof, and said valve comprising a ball seated in said funnel-shaped portion.
4. The subject matter of claim 1 wherein a portion of the length of the discharge hose is disposed within the tank, and said portion being encircled by a spiral spring.
Claims (4)
1. A toy pumper comprising, a. a miniature toy truck having an upwardly opening truck box, b. a liquid tank mounted in the truck box and having an opening in the top thereof for filling the tank with water, c. means forming a closed chamber within the tank and having an inlet and an outlet, d. a valve in the inlet permitting water to pass from the tank into the chamber but not in a reverse direction, e. a discharge hose connected to the outlet, and f. a pump means on the chamber for forcing water from the chamber out through the discharge hose.
