A. G. LANGLOT.
WOOD SAW. v No. 378,510. Patented Feb. 28, 1888.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM G. LANGLOT, OF LA GRANGE, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD 'IO LOUIS SCHNEIDER, OF SAME PLACE.
WOOD=SAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,510. dated February 28, 1888.
Application filed September 1'7, 1887. Serial No. 249,987. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, ADAM G. LANGLOT, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Grange, in the county of Lewis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in WVood-Saws, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved tension for woodsaws, and it consists in a certain novel construction and arrangement of parts, fully set forth hereinafter, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the saw, showing the tension in the loosened position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the tension tightened. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the tension device.
Referring by letter'to the drawings, A. des ignates a wood-saw of the ordinary construction, having the sidepieees, B 13, between the centers of which is arranged the extending piece 0, and the saw I), stretched between the lower ends of the said side pieces.
E designates the tension, comprising the loops F F, passed, respectively, at the outer ends around the upper ends of the side pieces, 13 B.
G represents a lever pivoted to the inner end of the loop F, and having the lower end thereof provided with ratch et-teeth H between the outer and inner ends of the loop F, the opposite edge of the lever being entirely smooth. By this construction the lever is at all times mounted upon the loop F, and it is also free of any projections which might interfere with the successful operation of the loop F.
The inner end of the loop F is adapted to be engaged. in any one of the said ratchet-teeth, and it will be readily seen that after said engagement, if the lever is drawn down parallel with the loop F, the tension -loops will be drawn very tight. Further, if the inner end' of the loop F is engaged in a tooth near the lower end of the lever, the tension will be greater than if engaged in a tooth near the pivot, and therefore the amount of the tension may be regulated to suit the requirements of the case.
I designates a locking-ring sliding on the slipped out near the end of the lever to hold the latter in the locked position.
The operation of this tension, as will be seen, is very simple, and when drawn tight there is no danger of any of the parts becoming damaged. Further, it is so easy to loosen and tighten the tension that the saw may be re lieved from strain whenever it is not in use, and the tension may be again applied when it is desired to use the same.
By means of the lever great power may be applied to the loops to draw the upper ends of the side bars toward each other, and consequently the saw-blade may be stretched with great force. 7 5
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The combination of the side bars, B, the loops F F, having their outer ends passed around the upper ends of the side bars, B, the lever G, having the inner end of the loop F passed through its body, and provided with ratchet-teeth H near its lower end on its edge between the outer and inner ends of the loop F, the opposite edge of said lever being entirely smooth, and the inner end of the loop F being engaged by the teeth H of the lever, and ring I, playing 011 the lever and the loop v F, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my 3 own I have hereto affixed my signature in presenee of two witnesses.
ADAM G. LANGLOT.
