@nutren` STATES ATENT trice;
CHARLES MAROELUS THOMPSON, OF LEXINGTON, NORTH OAROLIN A.
PLow.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,653, dated February '7, 1888. Application filed November 1l, 1887. Serial No. 254,918. (No model.)
- larly pointed out in the claim.
lbodying my improvements.
In the accompanying drawings,fFigure 1 is a perspective view of portions of a plow em- Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view ofthe same taken on the line ma: of Fig. 1. detached perspective view of the plow-standard. Fig. 4. is a similar view of one of the clip-blocks.
A represents the plow-standard, which is provided at its upper end with a pair of vertical arms, B B', arranged one in front of the other, as shown. On one side of each arm is made a recess, the face of which is provided with a series of transverse ratchet-teeth, theA teeth@ of the front arm extending downward and the teeth D ofthe rear arm extending upward, as shown. Ihe front arm, B, is provided with an inclined slot, E, and the'rear arm is provided with a vertical slot, F. The recess of the front arm, B, has the rear vertical guide-flange, b, and the recess of the rear arm, B', has the front downwardly and forwardly curved guide-flange, b. These guideiianges coact with the corresponding adjacent edges b2 b3 of the teeth C and D, to act as guides for the blocks G and K, hereinafter described. Theslot E is inclined downwardly and forwardly, as shown.
G represents a clip-block, which is arranged on the face of the rear arm, B', is adapted to move up and down thereon in a curve, and is provided on its inner side with ratchetsH that engage the teeth F. At the lower end of the block G, on the outerside thereof, is a iiange,
' I. The block G has on its front edge the inwardly-standing curved guide-ange g, which fits and moves between the guide-flange b' and the adjacent curved edge ba of the teeth D.
K represents a clip-block, which is provided on its inner side with ratohetteeth Il, adapted Fig. 3 is4 ato engage the teeth C of the front arm, B,.the
said block K bearing lagainst one side of said arm and being vertically adjustable thereon. At the upper end of the block K is a iiange, M, which projects from the outer side thereof. The block K has on its rear edge the inwardlystanding guide-ange 7c, which fits and moves between the guide-flange b and 'the adjacent edge b2 of the teeth C.' A
N represents the cross-beam,of the ordinary construction, which is adapted to bear against the outer side of the blocks K and G, lthe rear end of thesaid beam resting on the ange I of the block G, and the upper sideof the said beam bearing under the flange M of the plate K. Bolts O are passed transversely through aligned openings in the beam and the blocks and through the slots in the arms B, and to the threaded ends ofthese bolts areV screwed clampingnuts P.'
f By means of the curved guide-fiange b the inclined slot E, having about the same inclination as the said flange, and too short to need to be curved, and the nuts and bolts, the plowf beam may be set either vertically upward and downward, so that its bolts may be either in the upper or the lower ends of the slots E F, or at corresponding points between said slots, or may be set at an inclination, with the front end pointing either upward or downward, the distance of adjustment ranging from a line running from the upper end of the slotE to the lower end of the slot F to a line running from the upper end of the slot F to the lower end of the slot E. Thus both a good range of vertical adjustment and a large range of inclined adjustment are secured to the plowbeam by thel described means. t
y I am aware that plow-beams have been adjusted both vertically or up and down and to inclined positions by means ofslotted and toothed extensions of the plow standard, toothed blocks or platesyengaging said extensions, and suitable boltsand nuts, and such I do not claim, broadly.
Having thus described my invention, I
The combination, with the plow-standard having the vertical armsB B', the former provided With the vertical rear guide-flange b,
the downwardly and forwardlyinclined slot E,
and the downwardly-inclined teeth C, having nuts I?, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES MARCELUS THOMPSON.
the rear'guide-edge, b2, and the former provided with the front downwardly and forwardly curved guide-Harige b', the vertical 'slots F, and the upwardly-inclined teeth D, having the 5 front; curved guide-edge, b, ofthe plow-beam N, the clipblook K, having the upwardlyinclined teeth L, the flange M, and rear guideange k, the clip-block G, having the down- Vibnesses: Wardly-inclined teeth H, the flange I, and bhe H.
