Tokar At!0rney1-Ioward I. Podell [5 7 ABSTRACT A device for enabling a person to inspect the fingernails of one hand under a magnifying glass, and to dress said fingernails and apply nail polish with the fingers held in a fixed position under the magnifier. The device consists of a stand with parallel grooves in a horizontal surface, said grooves serving to locate the fingers and fingernails in a fixed position, in approximately one plane, together with a magnifying glass mounted to an arm member that permits locating the magnifier as desired to view the fingernails.
l C1aim,3 Drawing Figures FINGER NAIL INSPECTION UNIT SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A device for the inspection of fingernails under a magnifying glass so as to simplify the task of dressing the fingernails and applying nail polish.
An advantage of this device is that the fingers and fingernails are held in a fixed position, while being observed through the magnifier. The use of nail cleaning tools is accomplished with greater accuracy and safety.
A further advantage of the invention is that it is of simple and lightweight construction, and may be folded to permit storage in a vanity drawer.
The deivce consists of a base the upper surface of which is faced with parallel grooves of the size to locate fingers. A jointed arm member pivotably attached to one side of said base is mounted to a magnifier, preferably of rectangular shape. The jointed mangnifier arm permits varying the height of the magnifier above the plane of the base surface, while permitting the rotation of the magnifier about a horizontal axis so as to maintain the magnifier parallel to the plane of the observed fingernails lying on the grooves of the base surface.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawing in which: DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the device as seen from above;
FIG. 2 is a front view of the device; and
FIG. 3 is an end view of the device.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Turning now descriptively to the drawing, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 1, FIG. 2, and FIG. 3 illustrate the device 10, consisting of a base 11 in which four parallel grooves 12 are located for holding the fingers of one hand in position under magnifier glass 20.
A vertical side 13 of the device serves as a mounting for magnifier arms 15 and 16 which are pivotably fastened together by rivet 14, with arm 15 being pivotably fastened to the side member 13 by rivet 24, and arm 16 pivotably fastend to magnifier frame 21 by rivet 25.
The magnifier 20 may be fabricated of glass or plastic, and may be elevated and rotated so as to keep the fingernails in the proper focus, and to enable selective magnification of the field, while the fingers rest in the parallel grooves 12.
As an alternate embodiment, magnifier arm 15 may be directly fastened to the side of base 11 at the level below that of the plane of the grroves 11 so as to require less storage space, when not in use.
A lamp unit may be fastened to the underside of magnifier frame 21 to illuminate the field of view.
Since four fingers are simultaneously viewed under the magnifier 20, the task of dressing the finger nails and particularly applying of nail polish is simplified since visual magnified comparisons may be made to coat all nails similarly.
Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A device for the inspection of the finger nails of one hand under a magnifier lens, consisting of a base with an upper horizontal surface in which four parallel longitudinal grooves serve for the purpose of locating the fingers of one hand so that when said fingers are laid in said grooves, the finger nails are in approxiametely the same horizontal plane, together with a magnifier lens which is mounted on an arm member such that the magnifier lens may rotate about a horizontal axis, with pivotable means fastening said arm member to the device so that the height of the magnifier above the upper base surface may be adjusted by rotation of the arm member about its fastening means to the device, in which the magnifier mounting arm member is pivotably fastened to the base of the device.
