FOLDABLE ADJUSTABLE READING STAND DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a reading stand. More particularly, the invention relates to a foldable adjustable reading stand.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a reading stand of simple structure which is foldable and adjustable in position with facility, rapidity and convenience and which is light weight and easy to use.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the foldable adjustable reading stand of the invention in operating condition;
FIG. 2 is a bottom view of the stand of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a side view of the stand of FIGS. 1 and 2 in folded condition; and
FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram, on an enlarged scale, of part of the holding device of the back portion of the stand of the invention.
In the FIGS., the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The foldable adjustable reading stand of the invention comprises a back portion 1 for supporting reading material 2 (FIG. 1). A base portion 3 is pivotally affixed to the back portion 1 and has spaced notches 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 formed in its underside (FIGS. 1 and 2).
Each of a first pair of legs 10 and 11 is pivotally affixed to a corresponding side of the base portion 3 (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3). Each of a second pair of legs 12 and 13 is pivotally affixed in its center area 14 and 15, respectively, to a corresponding one of the first pair of legs 12 and 13 (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3).
A rod 16 is affixed at each end (FIGS. 1 and 2) to a corresponding one of the second pair of legs 12 and 13 at the upper ends of said legs in a manner whereby said rod may be positioned in selected ones of the notches 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 to position the base and back portions 3 and 1, respectively, at selected angles relative to horizontal. Thus, the right end of the rod 16 is affixed to the leg 12 and the left end of said rod is affixed to the leg 13.
The back portion 1 includes a holding device comprising a pair of spring-biased clamping members 17 and 18 (FIGS. 1 and 4) for removably holding the reading material 2 in upright position adjacent said back portion.
While the invention has been described by means of specific examples and in specific embodiments, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A foldable adjustable reading stand, comprising a back portion for supporting reading material;
a base portion pivotally affixed to the back portion and having spaced notches formed in its underside;
a first pair of legs each pivotally affixed to a corresponding side of the base portion;
a second pair of legs each pivotally affixed in its center area to a corresponding one of thefirst pair of legs; and I a rod affixed at each end to a corresponding one of the second pair of legs at the upper ends of said legs in a manner whereby the rod may be positioned in selected ones of the notches formed in the underside of the base portion to position the base and back portions at selected angles relative to horizontal.
2. A foldable adjustable reading stand as claimed in claim 1, wherein the back portion includes holding means for removably holding reading material in upright position adjacent said back portion.
3. A foldable adjustable reading stand as claimed in claim 2, wherein the holding means comprises a pair of spring-biased clampinggkmeinbers.

Claims (3)

1. A foldable adjustable reading stand, comprising A BACK PORTION FOR SUPPORTING READING MATERIAL; A BASE PORTION PIVOTALLY AFFIXED TO THE BACK PORTION AND HAVING SPACED NOTCHES FORMED IN ITS UNDERSIDE; A FIRST PAIR OF LEGS EACH PIVOTALLY AFFIXED TO A CORRESPONDING SIDE OF THE BASE PORTION; A SECOND PAIR OF LEGS EACH PIVOTALLY AFFIXED IN ITS CENTER AREA TO A CORRESPONDING ONE OF THE FIRST PAIR OF LEGS; AND A ROD AFFIXED AT EACH END TO A CORRESPONDING ONE OF THE SECOND PAIR OF LEGS AT THE UPPER ENDS OF SAID LEGS IN A MANNER WHEREBY THE ROD MAY BE POSITIONED IN SELECTED ONES OF THE NOTCHES FORMED IN THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BASE PORTION TO POSITION THE BASE AND BACK PORTIONS AT SELECTED ANGLES RELATIVE TO HORIZONTAL.
2. A foldable adjustable reading stand as claimed in claim 1, wherein the back portion includes holding means for removably holding reading material in upright position adjacent said back portion.
3. A foldable adjustable reading stand as claimed in claim 2, wherein the holding means comprises a pair of spring-biased clamping members.
