SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 376,743, dated January 24, 1888. I
Application filed January 8,1887. Serial No. 223,326. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IRA D. HURLBUT, acitizen of the United States, residing at Prairie du Chien, in the county of Crawford and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and usefication.
My invention relates to improvements in stereotyping castingboxes which are adjusted on a frame of suitable height, so as to be used in a horizontal, vertical, or inclined position,"
and have adjustable bearers, the transverse one of which isheldin place by reversible lugs which can be changed for various sized matv rices.
I The objects of my invention are to provide an easily-operated,str.ong,anddurable castingbox for various-sized work and secureagainst leakage. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire machine. Fig. 2 is a top view of the bottom of the casting-box, the bearers B B and B, place of the matrix C, and lugs D D.- Fig. 3 is a view of the corner of the bottom of the casting-box, the end of the transverse bearer B, the lug D, and cap-screw cl.

To operate the machine, place the transverse bearer B to the line of the end of the matrix and adjust the lugs D D, so as to keep it in position; place the bearers B B to the'lines '0f the sides of the matrix, with one end of each against thetransverse bearer, put a sheet of heavy Manila paper over all, and then set on the top H and fasten it down firmly with the box, and it is ready to pour the molten metal into it.
