DISPLAY CONTAINER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A display container for gems and the like formed of lightweight material and having a chamber formed therein with a transparent cover and an annular ring anchoring said transparent cover, said ring being of less diameter than the diameter of the chamber to give an illusion of third dimensional depth to the chamber and means for supporting the device to display the contents of the chamber.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a front elevational perspective view of the device.
FIG. 2 is a rear elevational perspective view, and
FIG. 3 is a cross sectional side elevational view.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a bottom sheet, such as of light cardboard, having a port formed therein of the desired configuration, such as the annular opening 2. A container 3 of the same configuration as the opening 2, of a thin, lightweight material, such as paper, is fitted snugly in the opening 2, and the peripheral flange 4 extends over the surface of the sheet 1 around the opening 2. The second, or top, sheet 5, of the same configuration as sheet 1, is mounted on the surface of sheet 1, and anchored there, as by glue, and pressed firmly in place, causing the flange 4 of the container 3 to be pressed into the material of the sheet 1, so that it is flush with the surface thereof. A thin overlay sheet 6, such as a layer of white paper, is mounted on the surface of sheet 5, and on this sheet the indicia desired for describing the article displayed appears.
A face member 7, having an opening therein of the same configuration as that of the container 3, but of a slightly less diameter than the opening in the container and havingv a sheet of transparent material 8 mounted on the underside thereof, is mounted, as by glue or other adhesive, over the container 3, and onto the surface of the sheetz6.
Before sealing the container by mounting the face member 7 on the sheet 6, a bed or cushion is formed in the container 3 as by wrapping a wad, of cotton 9 in a piece of bright fabric 10, and folding the periphery of the fabric over the margins of the disc 11 and then forcing the cushion formed into the container, the disc 11 being of a diameter slightly less than that of the container. The gem or other article to be displayed, as 12,
is seated on the cushion. When the face member 7 is anchored on the sheet 6, over the container opening,
the container will be sealed. v
On the back surface of the sheet 1, over the container 3, is a cover 13, mounted on the sheet 1 by glue, or the like, and is formed of substantially heavier material than that of the container 3, and is designed to protect the container. A strip 14 is mounted on the cover 13, and shaped to provide a support, which, when desired, may be folded outwardly to provide a support for the device when in display position.
It is obvious that the configuration of the container 3 may be as desired, such as heart shaped or rectangular for displaying a larger article, or a series of articles. When the article to be displayed is sealed in the container as herein described, the package may be stored, shipped or displayed without danger of contaminating the article with dust or the like, or soiling the gem by handling. Further, with the container in which the gem or other article is displayed, being permanently mounted in the much larger bottom sheet, top sheet and overlay, the gem or article displayed will be much less susceptible to the work of a shop lifter.
What I claim is:
1. In a display container, a bottom sheet, a container of the desired configuration mounted in the bottom sheet, a top sheet mounted over said bottom sheet and container with an opening therein in alignment with the container, a transparent seal over said container and adhered to said top sheet, and an annular face member over said seal.
2. The device defined in claim 1, wherein said container has a peripheral flange extending over the surface of said bottom sheet and pressed into the material thereof when the top sheet is mounted on the bottom sheet.
3. The device defined in claim 1 wherein a cover is mounted on said container and extending over a portion of the back surface of the bottom sheet.
4. The device defined in claim 4, having a strip mounted on said container movable into supporting position to maintain the device in display position.
5. The device defined in claim 1, wherein, said face plate is provided with an opening of less diameter than that of the container.
6. The device defined in claim. 1 wherein a cushion is formed in said container by mounting cotton covered fabric over a disc of slightly lessdiameter than the inside diameter of the container, and forcing same into the container.
7. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said top and bottom sheet consist of a pair of superimposed matching members having aligned ports, and a container having a peripheral flange is sandwiched between said members, in said ports, with the pressure of the members against said flange anchoring said container in position.
Claims (7)
5. The device defined in claim 1, wherein said face plate is provided with an opening of less diameter than that of the container.
6. The device defined in claim 1 wherein a cushion is formed in said container by mounting cotton covered fabric over a disc of slightly less diameter than the inside diameter of the container, and forcing same into the container.
7. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said top and bottom sheet consist of a pair of superimposed matching members having aligned ports, and a container having a peripheral flange is sandwiched between said members, in said ports, with the pressure of the members against said flange anchoring said container in position.
