Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GARDNER T. EAMES, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO FANNIE V. EAMES, OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,415, dated December 27, 1887.
' Application filed Augustflfl, 1887. Serial No. 247,545. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GARDNER T. EAMES, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulleys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a pulley embodying my inven} tion, certain parts being in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 00 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows details, hereinafter described.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in the respective figures.
A is the rim of the pulley, made of wood, and in sections, as shown, and having an inner web or flange, a, the sections being secured together in a suitable manner.
The spider or central part of the wheel consists of two T-shaped pieces of cast-iron, having each a solid arm, 0, and two half or divided arms, 0, the center of each half-arm be The central opening of the spider when the It will be seen that the bushings have four bearing-points upon the shaft, by which the shaft is firmly gripped and the pulley kept from slipping.
Each solid arm G is provided with a foot or flange, c, which fits up againstthe web or flange a of the rim A, and on the opposite side is a washer, b. By means of the feet or flanges c, the washers I), and ordinary bolts the rim and solid arms 0 are securely'attached together. A similar attachment is made to the half or divided arms 0, except that the feet are divided, as also are the washers shown by b.
The construction described allows the rim to be readily clamped and secured by the washers on shrinkage occurring, the rim being always kept tight to the spider.
It will be seen that myinvention produces an effective, simple, and cheap pulley, and one which can be readily tightened up on shrinkage of the web taking place. The pulley is also strong, light, and easily put together and adjusted.
Having described my invention, I claim- The rim A, having the inner web or flange, a, and the Tshaped spider-castings having V- shaped centers, combined with the washers b, the V shaped bushings, and securingbolts, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
