- ABSTRACT A device for connection with a liner plate at a point without a drum to be lined and moving it into positions within the drum and onto the walls thereof for connection therewith including a retractable boom having an arm pivoted on the outer end of the boom with a platen pivotally mounted on the outer end of the arm and a rack and pinion for pivoting the arm in a plane on the centerline of the boom together with means for pivotally moving the platen on the arm, a head member mounting the other end of the boom on a supporting surface together with means for rotating the boom to rotate the platen with respect to the horizontal axis of the boom, with means for pivoting the boom to move the platen substantially radially of the axis of the boom independent of the means for pivotally moving the platen together with means for positioning said platen at a point without a drum to receive a liner plate thereon and to points within said drum for positioning the liner plate on the walls of the drum for connection therewith.

- the plate In relining a drum with plates the plate must be held in position against the inner wall of the drum so that the plate may be bolted to the drum wall.
- the boom With the present device the boom is retracted with the platen pivoted to a position upon the boom. The entire device is positioned so that the platen when upon the boom in a retracted position is outwardly of the hollow trunnion of the drum whereby a liner plate may be placed on and secured to the platen.
- FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of a device for positioning a liner plate on the inner surface of a drum for ore refining from a point without the drum with the boom thereof extended into the drum and the elevating arm shown in raised position and also in a further position for placing liner plates on the ends of the drum shown in broken lines.

- a pair of identical tracks 38 and 40 each of which includes a base portion 42 with spaced side flanges 44 and 46, the inside surfaces 48 of each flange being obliquely disposed or sloped relative to the base 42 and converging to the base 42.
- Movable on the tracks 38 and 40 is the carriage C, particularly FIGS. 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
- the carriage C includes the top and bottom spaced plates 50 and 52 and mounted on the plates is a pair of rear bearings 54 and 56 in which the rear axle 58 rotates.
- Mounted on the outer ends of the axle 58 are the wheels 60 and 62 which on their circumference are sloped the same as the flanges 44 and 46 of the track 38 and between which the wheels ride.
- a front axle 64 is provided which is identical to rear axle 58 and is provided with identical bearings and wheels.
- the numeral 66 designates a locking mechanism of which there are four carried by the carriage C adjacent each wheel thereof. Each locking mechanism is identical so that only one will be described in detail, see particularly FIGS. 7, 9 and 10. The remaining identical locking mechanisms are given the same reference numeral 66 but with a lower case letter a.
- the lock mechanism 66 includes a pair of spaced brackets 68 and 70 secured to the rear wall 72 of the carriage C. Secured to and held by the brackets 68 and 70 is the cylinder 73 in which is mounted the piston 74 and from which extends the rod 76. The rod 76 has secured to the outer end thereof the wedge block 78 which is rectangular in shape and which slides in and engages in the track 38.
- the sides 80 and 82 of the block coincide with the oblique sides of the track.
- the cylinder 73 is supplied with conventional fluid pressure and as the wedge block 78 is moved outwardly thereby jamming in the track 38 whereby the carriage C is fixedly locked to the base in the tracks which is referred to hefeinafter.
- the circular bearing riser 84 mounted on plate 50 of the carriage C is the circular bearing riser 84, particularly FIG. 11, and mounted on the riser is the circular bearing 86.
- the numberal 88 designates a turntable base mounted on the bearing 86.
- Secured to the outer race of the bearing 86 is the ear 83 and secured to the bearing riser 84 is the ear 85.
- a hole is formed in the ear 83, the ear 85, and in the plate 50 through which the bolt 87 is positioned which locks the turntable base against rotation.
- Mounted on the front of the base 88 is a support in the form of the vertical open head frame 90 on which is mounted the verti cally disposed bearing riser 92 on which is mounted the ring gear 94.
- Rotatably mounted on the ring gear 94 by means of bearing 95 is the boom head plate 96 of the boom head 99 formed with the opening 98.
- the spaced ears 100 and 102 As a part of the boom head 99 and secured to the rear surface of the boom head plate 96 are the spaced ears 100 and 102. Further provided are the spaced cheek plates 104 and-106 pivotally mounted on the ears 100 and 102 by means of the pin 108. The rear end of the base boom section 110 is rigidly secured to and between the cheek plates 104 and 106 and the boom base extends through the opening 98 in the boom head plate 96 and the opening 97 of the head frame 90.
- the base boom 1 10 of the main boom 111 is pivotally actuated in a vertical plane by means of the hydraulic ram 112 connected to theears 100 and 102 by means of the pin 114 and also connected to the upper ends of the cheek plates by means of the pin 116.
- the ring gear 94 is rotatably driven by the pinions l 18 and 120, with the pinion 118 mounted on the shaft 122 of the hydraulic motor brake 124 and the pinion similarly operated by the hydraulic motor brake 126, particularly FIGS. 2, 3, 4, and 6.
- the motors 124 and 126 are mounted on the head plate 96 with the shafts of the motors extending through openings 128 in the plate 96, particularly FIGS. 5 and 6.
- Extending from the base boom section 110 is the mid-boom section 130 and extending therefrom is the fly boom section 132, the boom sections 130 and 132 telescopically operable by means of the mechanism shown in copending application entitled Device for Positioning Liner Plates Upon The Interior Surface Of A Drum For Securement Thereto.
- the platen P is rotatable substantially on the longitudinal axis of the arm 134 by means disclosed in the above referred to application and generally indicated as S, particularly FIG. 1.
- the pair of spaced plates 138 and 140 Secured to the top of the vertical head frame 90 are the pair of spaced plates 138 and 140 to which is secured the loader box frame 142 on which is mounted the rotating head assembly 144, particularly FIGS. 2, 3, 4, and 5.
- the head 144 Mounted on the head 144 is the telescoping knuckle boom Ba and secured at the outer end thereof is the parallel linkage grapple G which lifts and grips the liner plate L for placement of the plate L on the platen P.
- the drum D is mounted on a pair of pedestals 146 spaced on the floor F with the drum extending into the opening 0.
- a hollow trunnion 148 On each end of the drum l) is a hollow trunnion 148 large enough in diameter to allow a man to crawl through the same and into the drum.
- the unit A is positioned with the base 22 adjacent to but spaced from the drum D and on the vertical centerline of the drum.
- the device is moved on the tracks 38 and 40 to the front of the base as in FIG. 1 with the boom fully retracted and the elevating arm 134 and platen P horizontal and upon the boom outside the trunnion 148 ready to receive a liner plate L as suggested in FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the device is locked in place for operation by engaging the wedge blocks 78 in a jam fit into the tracks 38 and 40 by means of the mechanism described.
- the knuckle boom Ba is operated so that the grapple G thereof may be used to pick up a liner plate L delivered to the boom at approximately floor level.
- the liner plate is picked up and placed on the platen P and secured thereto.
- the boom is then extended whereby the platen and liner is brought into the drum.
- the arm 134 is then actuated by the rack and pinion heretofore mentioned to raise the arm 134 off the boom and the cylinder 136 is actuated sufficiently to position the liner plate L parallel to the wall of the drum. If the bolts extending from the liner plate are not in alignment with the receiving holes of the drum, the platen may be moved by the mechanism described.
- the boom With the bolts of the liner plate in alignment with the holes in the drum, the boom is then pivoted upwardly by means of cylinder 112 to place the liner plate into contact with the drum with the bolts b extended through the drum wall. Any adjusting movement of the platen P as the same is moved to a position against the drum wall is done by means of the tilt cylinder 136. With the bolts bin position the same are then equipped with nuts and drawn up to thereby secure the liner plate L to the inside of the wall of the drum D.
- the liner plates L are similarly secured to the ends of the drum by manipulation of the boom and the other parts heretofore referred to as shown in broken lines in FIG. 1.
- the knuckle boom Ba is operated by conventional means by an operator standing on the rotating tumtable base 88.
- a device for connection with a liner plate at a point without a drum to be lined and moving it into positions within the drum and onto the walls thereof for connection therewith including in combination:

- j. means for positioning said platen at a point without a drum to receive a liner plate thereon and to points within said drum for positioning the liner plate on the walls of the drum for connection therewith.
- said means for moving said platen substantially radially of the axis of the rotating means independent of the means for pivotally moving the platen includes a. means pivotally connecting the end of the boom to the head.
- said means for positioning said platen at a point without a drum to points within said drum includes a. said boom being retractable and extendable.
- said mounting means includes a a. base having b. counterweight means.
- said mounting means includes a. a base having b. counterweight means.
- the device of claim 1 in which said mounting means is slidably mounted on a base for moving said mounting means relative to a stationary drum.
- said means for moving said platen substantially radially of the axis of the second mentioned platen rotating means independent of the means for pivotally moving the platen includes a. means pivotally connecting the end of the boom to b. a head mounted on c. a base and d. means for pivoting the boom.
- a device for connection with a liner plate at a point without a drum to be lined and moving it into positions within the drum and onto the walls thereof for connection therewith including in combination:
- said means rotatably mounting the boom for rotation about its longitudinal axis includes a. a ring gear carried by said support,
- said means for rotatably mounting said support on said base includes a. bearing means interposed between said support and said base.
