Primary Examiner-Jams L. Jones, Jr. Assistant Examiner-Roscoe V. Parker Attomey-Tom E. Buck [5 7] ABSTRACT A kitchen tool for opening up various containers such as jars, beverage, and other bottles, and metal cans containing juices or canned milk; the device comprising a one piece member joined of molded tough plastic and having openings for grasping various sizes and shapes of caps in trying to remove them from their containers, and the device having a piercing prong for punching pouring openings in metal cans.
2 Claims, 6 Drawing FIVE WAY KITCHEN OPENER This invention relates generally to kitchen tools. More specifically it relates to bottle openers and the like.
A principle object of the present invention is to provide a five way opener wherein a single tool can open five different type containers.
Another object is to provide a five way opener wherein it can open up various different sizes of the different type of containers.
Yet another object is to provide a five way kitchen opener which beside being adaptable for use in the kitchen, is adaptable for use in a work shop for opening up paint cans, and other containers.
Other objects are to provide a five way kitchen opener which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use, and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily apparent upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention.
FIGS. 2 through 6 are view of the invention in operative use opening up different type containers.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral 10 represents a five way kitchen opener according to the present invention wherein there is a one piece member 11 molded of a tough plastic material and may be in an attractive red color, such as fire engine red.
The device includes a flat wall 12 of generally triangular-shape and which on two side edges has a downward extending flange 13 for providing rigidity and strength.
One end edge 14 of the wall 12 protrudes slightly so to form a pry for lifting paint can lids. The opposite end edge 15 extends around a prong l6 protruding from an extending tab I7 formed on the end of the wall 12, the tab 17 being adaptable for placement of a finger I8 thereupon so to depress the prong into a metal can 19 and punch out a pouring opening 20 as shown in FIG. 6. 1
A rectangular opening 21 through wall 12 serves to remove caps 22 from beverage bottles 23, as shown in FIG. 2.
A tapering, arcuate opening 24 through the wall 12 is adaptable to grasp different sizes of caps 25 and unscrew them off bottles 26, as shown in FIG. 3. A small end 27 of the opening 24 is adaptable to seize very small caps 28 such as are used on nail polish bottles 29 and unscrew them, as shown in FIG. 4.
The flanges 13 converge toward each other at one end so that different sizes of jar caps 30 can be grasped therebetween and unscrewed off jars 31, as shown in FIG. 5.
Various other uses may of course be found, for the tool due to its particular shape, one such use consisting in utilizing a corner 32 of the flange 13 to pry open a small lid from a can.
Thus there is provided a five way kitchen opener.
While various changes may be made in detail con struction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
I claim:
1. A kitchen tool for conveniently opening various type containers, comprising a planar top wall tapering uniformly linearly from a wide end to a narrow end including integral transverse bounding opposing side walls converging longitudinally from points adjacent the wide end to points adjacent the narrow end, said wide end including a straight edge extending beyond said side walls, said narrow end having an arcuate extension beyondsaid side walls provided with centered transverse puncturing means in further combination with a trapezoidal hole in said top wall adjacent the wide end and a longitudinally extending opening for removing screw caps said opening being bounded by straight uniformly converging surfaces which terminate in a large arc at one end and a small are adjacent the narrow end, wherein both small and large arcs each having varying radii.
2. A kitchen tool as in claim I wherein the last said opening is closer to one of the side walls and the said arcs are tangest to only the closer of said converging surfaces.
Claims (2)
