Schultz An0rrteyl'1ar01d E. Cole [57] ABSTRACT A gun butt holder has a hanger member and a gripping member extending at an obtuse angle therefrom. The hanger member has an attaching member and the gripping member has provision to receive said attaching member to thereby so hold said gripping member around a gun butt, that the latter will hang vertically.
4 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures GUN BUTT HOLDER The principal object of my invention is to provide a holder for a gun butt that enables the latter to hang vertically, as well as the whole gun, despite the uneven thickness and varying shape of the gun butt.
Another object is to provide such a holder that is formed of one piece of material, the different parts being so formed that one holder is adaptable to practically every gun butt known.
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and arrangement such as is disclosed by the drawing. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and, therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawing, nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my claims.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of my gun holder lying flat.
FIG. 2 is a front elevational view showing my gun holder in position use, fastened to a gun butt and attached to a hook on a wall, the wall and part of a gun being shown broken away.
FIG. 3 is a rear elevational view; but otherwise similar to-FIG. 2, the wall and hook being omitted.
As illustrated, my gun butt holder has a hanger member having an outer portion 12, and an inner portion 14 preferably extending at a slight angle to the latter, so that the two form an acute angle, which better enables the gun butt to hang more truly vertical. Adjacent the end of said outer portion 12 a grommet 16 is attached by which my holder maybe hung on'a hook 32 set in a wall 30.
- I provide fastening means having an attaching member 20 that has hooks 18 that extend beyond the outer edge of said inner portion 14. Said member 20 is attached to said inner portion 14 by rivets 22 extending through the latter. This attaching member 20 is positioned adjacent a gripping portion 24 of my holder, preferably with the hooks 18 extending beyond the edge of said portion 14. This gripping member 24 extends at greater than a right angle from said inner portion 1.4, the two portions 24 and 14 forming an obtuse angle.
Said fastening means also provides two sets of holes 26 and 28 respectively in said gripping member 24, either set of which is adapted to receive said hooks 18, the particular set used depending upon the circumference of a gun butt 34 that is to be hung on a wall or the like.
In use, said gripping member 24 is wrapped around a narrower or smaller portion of said gun butt 34, and the hooks 18 are inserted in a set of holes 26 or 28, depending upon the size of the gun butt. Thus the gun butt and the gun will hang straight down when the hanger member 10 is attached to a hook on a wall, as indicated in said FIG. 2.
My holder is preferably made of leather which is in a single piece, and which is cut to the shape shown in said FIG. I.
Said hooks 18 are so positioned with relation to said sets of holes, either 26 or 28, that said gripping member 24 overlaps part of said hanger portion l4, in position of use, as shown in said FIG. 3. An outer end portion of said gripping member extends diagonally upward while another and overlapping portion thereof that is laterally opposite thereto, also extends diagonally upward in a different direction. This arrangement accommodates the taper of the gun butt and enables the gun to hang vertically downward, whereby the gun itself makes a neat appearance occupying the least possible space, and putting a minimum amount of stress on my holder. Also the downward position of the gun prevents, by force of gravity, foreign matter and liquids from entering and remaining in the bore and action of the gun.
What I claim is:
l. A gun butt holder in combination with a gun butt said holder comprising a hanger member and a gripping member extending angularly therefrom, said hanger and gripping members having fastening means adapted to fasten said members together when said gripping member is in position of use, said gun butt flaring outwardly in circumference towards the outside end inner end portion of said gripping member extending v diagonally upward and underlapping end part of said gripping member outer end portion.
3. A gun butt holder as of claim 2, said gripping member outer end portion also overlapping part of said hanger member.
4. A gun butt holder comprising a hanger member and a gripping member extending at an angle therefrom greater than a right angle, said hanger and gripping members having fastening means adapted to fasten said members together when said gripping member is in position of'use, said hanger member having an outer portion and an inner portion extending at an obtuse angle from the latter, said fastening means having an attachtaching member.
