Description
[45] July 31, 1973 Unied States Patent Dane! PATENIEU JuL 1 1975 SHEET 3 UF 3 EXTENSIBLE SUPPORT FRAMEWORKS FOR FURNITURE, PARTICULARLY DISPLAY FURNITURE The present invention relates to an extensible support framework for furniture, particularly display furniture.
The presentation and arranging of objects in a shop necessitate the use of furniture & fittings which are perfectly adapted to their function and comply with different subjections, particularly concerning the ease of aecess to the objects, adaptation to very diverse objects, solidity and in particularly the aesthetic qualities of the assembly.
An object of the present invention is an extensible support framework which complies with these different criteria.
In fact, this framework is made from metal sectioned elements with outer anodized channeled surfaces which may be assembled together very simply by means of clamping members and screws.
This framework therefore does not depend on any dimension or fixing means and it may be adapted to any type of problem of arrangement.
Finally, it is very easy to place in position and modify, enabling the user to take maximum advantage therefrom according to the necessities of his activity.
ln accordance with the present invention, the framework comprises a base stand constituted by a plate provided with feet, said plate comprising a longitudinal groove in which is engaged a rail projecting with respect to the surface of the plate and on which are engaged uprights, by` a corresponding groove, between which uprights are disposed means for storing and presenting objects, which are fixed to the uprights by assembly means. The invention will be more readily understood with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. l is a side elevational view of an embodiment of an extensible support framework according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of the fixing of a foot along line II-II of FIG. l.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view, along III-III of FIG.l, of the assembly of two sectioned elements.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view along IV-IV of FIG. l of an assembly means.
FIG. 5 is a sectional view -along V-V of FIG. l of a jack.
FIG. 6 is an elevational view of an embodiment of a piece of furniture comprising a framework according to the invention.
FIG. 7 is a plan view of the furniture shown in FIG.
FIG. 8 is a side elevational view of the furniture shown in FIG. 6.
FIG. 9 is another side elevational view of the furniture shown in FIG. 6.
Referring now to the drawings, the framework according to the invention, shown as a whole in FIG.1, comprises a base stand l constituted by a plate 2 comprising a side edge 3 on which are fixed feet 4 constituted by a tubular quadrangular section (FIG. 2) having on one of its edges a longitudinal groove 5 having an opening 5a on one of its sides. There is slidingly mounted in the groove 5 a clamping member 6 or nut in which is engaged a screw 7 which passes through the section through opening 5a.
Furthermore, the screw 7 is engaged in a hole 8 of a U-shaped fixing clamp 9 whose wings l0, 10a are fixed to the side edge 3 of the plate 2 by screws ll.
Whilst the screw 7 is being tightened, the clamping member or nut S abuts against the edges ofthe opening 5a and thus ensures the integration of the clamp 9 and the foot 4.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the plate 2 is made of wood coated as desired by plastics or textile material and the sections 4 are made of aluminium having an outer surface which is channeled and anodized.
ln its upper part, the plate 2 has a longitudinal groove l2 in which is engaged a rail 13 preferably constituted by a strip of plastics material and on which are slidably mounted uprights 14 constituted by a section identical to that described hereinabove and which is used for forming the feet 4. To this end, a ferrule l5, fitted at one of thc ends of the upright I4 has a groove 16 in which a rail I3 is engaged.
In order to ensure the adjustment of position of the framework, the lower end of the feet 4 and the upper end of the uprights 14 are provided with jacks 17, 18, which abut respectively on the ground and on the ceiling of the premises in which the frame is located.
The jack, of known type, shown inv detail in FIG. 5, comprises a ferrule 19 made of plastics material fitted in the upright 14, said ferrule receiving a micro-meter screw 20 comprising a member 2l made of elastic material intended for coming into contact with the ceiling or the ground.
In the upper part of the upright l4 there is laterally fixed a bracket 22 which is connected to said upright by a U-shaped fixing member 23 whose arms are fixed to the bracket 22 by screws 24, and to the upright 14 by a clamping member 25 and a screw 24, in a similar manner to the assembly of FIG. 2.
There is fitted to the front end of the bracket 22 a ferru'le 26 made of plastics material on which is fixed a front cross-piece 27 capable of bearing inscriptions relative to the objects or products displayed or arranged.
In certain cases, it may be advantageous to hold the uprights 14 in position by side cross-pieces 4l sealed in the wall 42 at one of their ends and fixed at their other end to the upright 14 by a ferrule 43 and an assembly means comprising a clamping member and a screw, as shown in detail in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4.
A non-limiting embodiment of a piece of furniture comprising the framework according to the invention is shown in FIGS. 6, 7, 8 and 9. This furniture comprises two shelves, but it is obvious that it could have a larger number thereof.
As described above, the framework comprises a plate 2 supported by three'pairs of feet 4 and on which are mounted, in the'manner described hereinabove, three uprights 14u, 14h, 14e, which carry in their upper part brackets 22a, 22h, 22C, connected together by a front cross-piece 27 which is fixed at its ends to the wall by cross-pieces 28, 29.
Between the uprights l4b, l4c are disposed two series of bins 30, 3l, in which'objects are stored and which are fixed to the uprights l4b, 14e by means of support clamps 32, which are connected on the one hand to the bins 30, 3l by screws 33 and, on the other hand, to the upright 14h, 14e, by a clamping member 34 and a screw 35, according to an assembly described hereinabove.
There is disposed between the uprights 14a, l4b a support bar 36 engaged at its ends in rings 37 integral with clamps 38 fixed to the uprights 14a, 14h, according to the mode of fixation by clamping member and screw, shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4.
By moving the uprights 14 over base stands l by suitable lengths, it is therefore possible to obtain shelves of different sizes and for different uses.
l claim l. Extensible support framework for furniture, particularly display furniture, for the presentation and arrangement of objects, wherein the framework comprises a base stand constituted by a plate provided with feet having screw adjusted jacks on the lower ends thereof, said plate comprising a longitudinal groove in which is engaged a rail projecting with respect to the surface of the plate and on which uprights are engaged, by a corresponding groove, said uprights having means disposed therebetween for storing and presenting objects, which are fixed on the uprights by assembly means and screw adjusted jacks on the upper ends thereof.
2. Support framework according to claim l, wherein the support feet of the plate and the uprights are constituted by the same type of tubular quadrangular section with channeled outer surface, having a longitudinal groove in which clamping members may be engaged by sliding, in which clamping members are engaged screws for fixing members for assembling the elements ofthe framework and Amembers for supporting the means of storing and presenting the objects.
