COPYING-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 374,748, dated December 13, 1887.
Application filed November 30, 1886. Serial No. 220.261. (N0 model.) Patented in Belgium September 30, 1886.1?0. 74,584.; in England November 9, 1886, No. 12,233; in Spain November 26, 1886, No. 6,309; in Italy December 18, 1836, No. 20,592/191, and
in France January 20, 1887, No. 17 ,625.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, SIGMUND NETTER, HEINRICH AUGUST CARL LEHMANN, and PAUL WILHELMMAX MATTIG, all of Berlin, in the Empire of Germany, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Copying-Presses, (for which Letters Patent have heretofore been granted to us by the government of France, dated January 20,1887, No. 178,625 Belgium, September 30, 1886, No. 74,584; Great Britain, November 9,1886, No. 12,233 5 Italy, December 18, 1886, No. 20,592 191, and Spain November 26, 1886, No. 6,309,) of which the following is a specification.
This inventionrelates to certain new and useful improvements in copying-presses; and the object of our invention is to provide a new and improved copying-press which is simple in construction, strong and durable, and not expensive, and which operates very rapidly.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as .will be fully described and set forth hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of our improved copying-press. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same, the pressure being applied. Fig. at is a longitudinal sectional elevation on the line a: m, Fig. 1, showing the parts in the same position as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view on the line y 3 Fig. 6 is a detail longitudinal sec tional view of the yoke, lever, and screw, parts being broken out. Fig. 7 isa longitudinal sectional View of the yoke, parts being broken out.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
On the base-plate A the yoke or frame B is fastened in any suitable manner, preferably so that it can easily be detached. The yoke B is providedin its center with a longitudinal slot, 0, having the beveled ends I) b, Fig. 7. In each side of the slot a vertical groove, D, is formed, which serves as a guide for the boxslide E, fixed on the up er end of a left-hand screw-spindle, F, whic is screwed into a tubular sleeve or nut, G, threaded left-handed on the inside and right-handed on the outside, said screw G being screwed into the internally-threaded neck H of a plate, J, fastened on the upper side of the press-plate K. The threaded sleeve or nut G is provided at its top with a flange, serving as a handle. The head E is provided with a recess for receiving the cam c, pivoted in the sides of the yoke and passed through vertical slots M in the sides of the guide-box E, which sides are provided at their upper ends with lugs e, which extend over the edge of the cam. Said cam c is provided with a handle, L, as shown. The pressplate K is provided with guides N N, which slide on uprights of the yoke or frame B.
The copying-book O is placed on the bedplate A, and then the threaded sleeve G is raised by turning the flange of the sleeveG to the right, or lowered by turning it to the left. The press-plate K can thus be -adjusted to rest on the top of the book. The handle L is in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 4. To ex erta pressure on the book, the handle-lever L is swung to the left and its cam c, acting on the bottom of the recess in the head E, presses the head E, screw-spindle F, sleeve G, and plate K downward, the beveled ends of the slot in the yoke limiting the throw of said lever. After the desired pressure has been exerted the lever L is thrown to the right, and as the edge of the cam acts on the lugs e on the upper ends of the side of the box said box and the screw and also the press-plate K are raised and the book can be removed. When the bottom plate is made detachable from the yoke, the entire copying-press can be taken apart and folded very rapidly.
The press is strong, compact, and readily adapted for use.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. The combinatiomwith a base-plate, pressplate, and yoke, of a cam pivoted in the yoke, a screw-spindle which cannot turn on its axis and on which the cam acts, a tubular nut or sleeve into which-said screw is screwed, and a screw-threaded neck on the press-plate into which said nut or sleeve is screwed, substantially as shown and described.
2. In acopying-press, the combination, with a base-plate, a press-plate, and a yoke provided with a slot having vertical guide-grooves, of a box mounted to slide in said guides, a cam pivoted within said box in the slotin the yoke and having a handle, and ascrew on said sliding box, which screw is connected with the press-plate, substantially as shown and de scribed.
3. In a copying-press, the combination, with the base-plate, press-plate, and yoke having a 1 5 longitudinal slot and vertical guide-groovesin the sides of the slot, ofabox mounted to slide
