Abstract

An edge lath for securement of a moquette, a carpet or any other sheet shaped covering material on the edge of a stair step. The lath has a T shaped cross section, the leg of the T capable of being applied on the upper face of the step while one of the wings of the T is applied against the rise or the front edge of the step, the other wing of the T being upwardly directed when the lath is installed and bent at right angle so as to provide, with the leg ot the T, a groove for receiving the edge of the covering sheet material of the step.

[57] ABSTRACT An edge lath for securement of a moquette, a carpet or any other sheet shaped covering material on the edge of a stair step. The lath has a T shaped cross section, the leg of the T capable of being applied on the upper face of the step while one of the wings of the T is applied against the rise or the front edge of the step, the other wing of the T being upwardly directed when the lath is installed and bent at right angle so as to provide, with the leg ot the T, a groove for receiving the edge of the covering sheet material of the step.

2 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures EDGE LATII FOR STAIR STEP The present invention has for object an edge lath allowing to secure a moquette, a carpet or any other sheet shaped covering material on the edge of a stairs step.

This lath is characterized by the fact that it is of a T shaped cross section, the leg of the T being intended to be applied on the upper face of the step while one of the wings of the T is applied against the rise of the step or the front face of the nose of the step, the other wing of the T upwards directed when the lath is in position, being bent at right angle so as to provide, with the leg of the T, a groove into which engages the edge of the covering sheet material of the step.

The drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.

FIG. 2 is a side view of a portion of stair the steps of which are provided with the lath of FIG. 1.

The lath represented in FIG. 1, generally designated by l, is of T shaped cross section. Its part la, constituting the leg of the T, the thickness of which decreasing from its base to its extremity, is intended to be applied on the front edge of the step of a stair, such as step 2 of the FIG. 2. As shown in the drawing, the upper surface of the leg la is inclined upward toward the base while the undersurface is parallel to the upper face of the step 2 whereby planar surface of the leg is at an acute angle relative to the opposite planar surface of said leg.

One of the wings of the T, designated by lb, is directed downwards when the lath is in position on the step of the stair and is applied against the rise. Ifthe rise is covered with a moquette 3, this moquette inserts under part lb of the lath. In the case of stairs which steps are provided with noses, part 1b will apply against the front face of the nose of the step. As shown in figures, the terminal ends of the wings are tapered.

As to the wing designated by 1c of the T, directed upwards when the lath is in position, and is bent at a right angle in order to constitute, with the leg la, a groove in which engages the front edge of the moquette 3 covering the step 2. As shown in FIG. 2, the leading edge of the moquette is at a slight angle upward relative to the upper surface of the step. The outer face of parts lb and 1c is rounded so that the heels of the shoes cannot be caught thereto.

The present lath allows to secure easily moquettes, carpets or any sheet shaped ground covering material without risk that the front edge of the covering material to be marred,.

What I claim is:

l. A lath adapted to fasten a ground-covering sheet material to the edge of a stair-step and installable at the corner defined at said edge by the upper and front faces of the stair-step, said lath comprising an elongate member of substantially T-shaped configuration defined by a leg having opposed planar surfaces and a pair of oppositely directed wings at the base of said leg, each of said wings having tapered terminal edges, one wing beinginclined at an acute angle relative to said leg and the other wing being inclined at an obtuse angle relative to said leg, said one wing including an angularly bent terminal portion arranged substantially parallel to said leg, said one wing defining with one planar surface of said lega groove capable of securely receiving the leading edge of said ground-covering sheet material, and said other wing having its terminal edge directed toward the front face of the stair-step, said leg gradually decreasing in thickness from the base of the T toward its terminal end and having a planar undersurface scalable on the upper face of the stair-step, said one planar surface of said leg being inclined at an acute angle relative to the planar undersurface of said leg, said groove capable of receiving the leading edge of said ground-covering sheet material to dispose same at a slight upward inclination relative to the upper face of the stair-step.

2. The lath as claimed in claim I in which a groove is defined between theother wing and the front face of the stair-step, said ground-covering sheet material being received therein and in secure engagement with the tapered terminal edge of said other wing between said edge and the front face of the stair-step.

Claims

1. A lath adapted to fasten a ground-covering sheet material to the edge of a stair-step and installable at the corner defined at said edge by the upper and front faces of the stair-step, said lath comprising an elongatE member of substantially T-shaped configuration defined by a leg having opposed planar surfaces and a pair of oppositely directed wings at the base of said leg, each of said wings having tapered terminal edges, one wing being inclined at an acute angle relative to said leg and the other wing being inclined at an obtuse angle relative to said leg, said one wing including an angularly bent terminal portion arranged substantially parallel to said leg, said one wing defining with one planar surface of said leg a groove capable of securely receiving the leading edge of said ground-covering sheet material, and said other wing having its terminal edge directed toward the front face of the stair-step, said leg gradually decreasing in thickness from the base of the T toward its terminal end and having a planar undersurface sealable on the upper face of the stair-step, said one planar surface of said leg being inclined at an acute angle relative to the planar undersurface of said leg, said groove capable of receiving the leading edge of said ground-covering sheet material to dispose same at a slight upward inclination relative to the upper face of the stair-step.

2. The lath as claimed in claim 1 in which a groove is defined between the other wing and the front face of the stair-step, said ground-covering sheet material being received therein and in secure engagement with the tapered terminal edge of said other wing between said edge and the front face of the stair-step.
