Michell Attorney-Connolly and Hutz [57] ABSTRACT The present invention relates to indication clips comprising two separate sheet members which are held together at engaging portions in such a manner that a holding means is formed between them for an indication sheet as well as a slit for the insertion of an edge portion of a filing card or the like, the sheet members on both sides of the slit being urged by their inherent elastic force towards said edge portions so as to hold it.
5 Claims, 11 Drawing Figures INDICATION CLW FOR ING C a LHKE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION .manently joined by suitable means and the slit where an edge portion of the filing card is to be inserted, is kept tightly holding said edge portion by inherent elastic force of the sheet material.
A disadvantage of the known indication clips is the difficulty of inserting an edge portion of the filing card into the resilient slit. In order to ensure a secure hold the elastic force between said two sheet members must be considerable, and the insertion of a card edge will thus necessarily be difficult and the cards will often be damaged.
The object of the present invention is to provide an indication clip eliminating said disadvantages. This is achieved by a clip where the lower edge of the sheet member forming the back plate above the card edge, is provided with a number of fingers pointing downwards, and where the other sheet member forming the front plate above the card edge, is provided with a transversally disposed series of apertures adapted to said fingers, the upper edges of the back plate having at least one portion deflected forwards and downwards, and the front plate having lobes or the like bent up wards and forwards and formed of sheet material available from said apertures, so that said portion and said lobes form an element which when said fingers are inserted into said apertures and said two sheet members are urged into contact with each other will hold an indication sheet inserted between them towards the front plate and locking the indication clip onto the card.
When such a device is used the sheet members forming the clip are placed on the edge of the filing card or the like and are urged into an elastic, enveloping engagement, whereafter they are locked in this position by insertion of said indication means. Said indication means may preferably consist of a lens body having an indication strip applied between its back surface and the front plate.
The invention will now be described in detail by way of example with reference to the drawings where an embodiment is shown.
FIG. 1A shows a front elevational view of one sheet member of an indication clip according to the invention.
FIG. 1B is a side elevational view of the indication clip portion shown in FIG. 1A.
FIG. 2A is a front elevational view of the other sheet member of the indication clip.
FIG. 2B is a side elevational view of the indication clip portion shown in FIG. 2A.
FIG. 3A is a front elevational view of a lens serving to lock the two sheet members of FIGS. 11 and 2 together.
FIG. 3B is a side elevational view of the lens of FIG. 3A.
FIGS. 4, 5 and 6 show side views of three stages of applying and locking an indication clip according to the invention on the edge of a filing card or the like. The filing card, however, is not shown.
FIG. 7 shows an elevation of the unit comprising the two sheet members but not the locking means. 7
FIG. 8 shows a perspective of the indication clip applied to the edge of a perforated filing card.
The indication clip shown in the drawing comprises a first sheet member 1 forming the back plate of the assembled clip. This sheet means has an upper, deflected edge portion 2 and lower blanked out fingers 3 the lower free ends 3' of which are claw-shaped. The shape of said fingers will appear clearly from the side view of the sheet member according to FIG. 1.
The other sheet member shown in FIG. 2 has a number of blanked out lobes 5 corresponding to the fingers 3 on the sheet member 1. The blanked out lobes 6 are bent outwards and upwards as shown at 6 in the drawing. Along its lower edge the sheet member 4 is provided with a series of apertures 7 corresponding to the free ends 3 of the fingers 3.
The indication clip furthermore, comprises a lens body h which is preferably provided with edge portions 9 as shown in FIG. 3.
When the indication clip is to be secured to the edge of a filing card fingers 3 are introduced from the back into the openings 5 in sheet member 4, as shown in FIG. 4. Thus, a tong-shaped hold is formed between said fingers 3 and the lower part of the sheet member 4. Into this hold lltl the edge of a filing card is placed and the upper portions of the sheet members 1 and 4 are joined together as indicated by the arrow in FIG. 4. Thus, the hold on the filing card is secured. Thereafter the lens b is inserted between the deflected edge portion 2 and the bent lobes 6. Thus, the sheet members 1 and 4 are locked securely onto the edge of the filing card. At the same time as the locking lens 8 is inserted a label or a paper strip provided with the desired lettering or the like is inserted between the back surface of the lens and the front of the front plate 4.
FIG. 8 shows the assembled indication clip arranged on the edge of a filing card 111 of the kind provided with perforations 12 adapted for the fingers 3.
It will be understood that the embodiment shown in the drawing and described above is only meant as an illustration of the inventive idea and can be modified in many ways within the scope of invention. The projections or lobes resp. cooperating for holding the sheet members together can naturally be shaped difierently from the fingers and apertures described. Also portions of the sheet members can be formed for cooperation with a locking lens or indication sheet in a different way to provide a locking means for the sheet members in an engaged position on the edge of the filing card or the like.
I claim:
