H. F. BARTLETT.
OVEN.
Patented Nov. 22, 18.87.
WITNESSES Egea-vz UNITED STATES PATENT EETCE.
HENRY F. BARTLETT, OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN B. CORSON, S. A. 8E S. O. HASELTINE, E. B. LLOYD, AND M. J. BARTLEIT, ALL
OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373.428, dated November 22, 1887.
Application filed August 2, 1886. Serial No. 209,821.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. BARTLETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springeld, in the county of Greene and State 0fMissouri,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ovens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap- 1o pertains to make and use the Same.
My invention relates to improvements in portable ovens, which will be fully understood from the following description and claim, taken in connection with the annexed x5 drawings, in which* Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through the center of the oven. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section through the oven in the plane indicated by dotted line a: x on Fig. l.
2o Fig. 8 is a vertical cross-section through the oven in the plane indicated by dotted line y 1/ on Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section through the oven in the plane indicated by dotted line zz on Fig. l.
Referring to the annexed drawings by letter, A designates the body of the oven, which is preferably cubical, and which has an aperture, a, of suitable size through its bottom wall for the admission of heat. This body is provided with a door, B, which is composed of double walls, with a flue-space, b, between them. Near the lower end of the inner wall of this door are apertures c, and near the upper end of the outer wallet' the door are apertures c.
O designates the oven, provided with removable shelves D, and E designates a rectangular removable bottom for the oven, which forms a iiue, d, closed at its front end and 4o sides and open at e.
Between the bottom fof the oven and the bottom of the body A is a flue, g, which is closed at its front and rear ends, but open at its sides, as indicated at h h. These openings h h communicate with vertical side lines,
(No model.)
h h', which have for their inner sides the side walls, iz', of the oven, which walls terminate below the top wall, j. This top wall, j, eX- tends from one side wall of the body A to the front wall of the body A, to a back wall, k, and also at ZZ to theback wall of said body, as shown in the horizontal section, Fig. 4, of the annexed drawings. I form between the wall k and the back wall ofthe body A a flue or space, m, which communicates with the space or flue d, formed by the removable bottom E, and also with a space, n, between the top oven-wall, j, and the top of the body A, as shown in Fig. l.
Near the front end of the top wall of the body A are apertures p, Fig. l. The operation of the oven is as follows: Heat is admitted into the flue g through the opening a and circulates in this flue, and passes from thence through the side tlues. h h', and downinto the oven. After circulating in the oven, the heat passes out of it through the apertures and 'line into the double-wall door B.
If the removable bottom E is not in the oven, much of the hot air will pass from the oven into the back flue, m, thence through the horizontal flue n, and out through the aperturesp in the top wall of the body A. If the said bottom is in the oven7 as shown in Fig. l, there will be practically very little circulation in the spaces d m n.
Having described my invention, I claim* The combination of the body A, having its bottom and top perforated, as described, the double-wall oven-door provided with apertures, as described, the side lines, h h', communicating with the oven, the removable bottom E, forming a flue, d, and the liues m n, all substantially as described.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY F. BARTLETT.
