6 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures GOLF SWING TRAINING ATTACHIVIENT This invention generally relates to a golf swing training attachment, and more particularly to an attachment which is fixed to the head of a wooden club and adapted to enable a golfer to know most readily whether his club was swung with the face thereof facing accurately in the direction of impact.
A first object of this invention is to provide a golf swing training attachment which is extremely light in weight scarcely affecting the weight of the club.
This is a very important factor for the reason that a golfer is unable to apprehend a perfect swing that is useful in the actual game if the training attachment greatly affects the weight of the club since no such attachment is generally used when a game is actually played.
A second object of this invention is to provide a golf swing training attachment that is simple to handle and easy to attach to any wooden club.
A third object of this invention is to provide a golf swing training attachment that is light in weight, compact in size and handy to carry.
A further object, which is the most important of all, is to provide a golf swing training attachment enabling the user to know that the club was swung precisely inside out by emitting a sound with an air stream.
These and other objects are accomplished by the parts, improvements, combinations and arrangements comprising the invention, a preferred embodiment of which is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, and herein described in detail. Various modifications and changes in details of construction are comprehended within the scope of the appended claims. Of the drawings:
FIG. ii is a disassembled perspective view showing an embodiment of the attachment of this invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of said attachment;
FIG. 3 is a vertically sectioned view of a whistle of said attachment;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view showing the state wherein said attachment has been attached to a golf club.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates a whistle, B designating a fixing member having a suction disk.
Referring now to FIGS 1 and 2, the numeral 1 designates a cylindrical member having an opening at each end thereof, the opening 2 being an air inlet. The numeral 7 designates a vibration plate consisting of thin metal plate having resilience, 5 designating a tray for receiving the vibration plate 7. The whistle A is completed by placing said vibration plate 7 on a flange 6 of the receiving tray 5 and inserting said plate and tray into the cylindrical member 1 through the left-side opening 2' thereof.
If the opening 2 of the cylindrical member 1 is formed slightly narrower than the backward opening 2' thereof, the vibration plate 7 and the receiving tray 5 are free from the risk of projecting further forwardly from the inlet 2 of the cylindrical member 1 when said vibration plate 7 and receiving tray 5 are inserted thereinto.
Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, a semicircular partition 12 is provided on the interior wall of the central part of the cylindrical member 1, a projecting ridge 13 being provided along said interior wall opposed to said retaining partition 12. The vibration plate 7 and the flange 6 of the receiving tray 5 are retained by the space between both ends of the projecting ridge 13 and the retaining partition 12.
Referring again to FIG. 1, the fixing member B comprises a suction disk 11 and a projecting member 9 for retaining the whistle A, said projecting member 9 having a penetration hole 8 through which to insert and secure the whistle A. If the fixing member B is manufactured with resilient material, such as nylon, polyethylene and the like, and the penetration hole 8 is formed slightly narrower than the diameter of the cylindrical member 1, the fixing member B is capable of retaining the cylindrical member thereinside most effectively thereby obviating the risk of the whistle A being dislocated even by a violent movement. Moreover, the whistle member and the fixing member are easily replaceable if damaged. In addition thereto, the attachment of this invention which is made up of the aforementioned material is extremely light in weight.
Furthermore, if a stopper 3 is provided slightly backwardly in relation to the air inlet of the cylindrical member 1 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, said stopper 3 enables not only to insert the whistle A into a predetermined position inside the hole 8 but also to prevent the risk of the whistle A being displaced by an impact of some object against the front part of the attachment. Moreover, it will be convenient for the user if an indicator 10, such as a line, an arrow and the like, designating the direction in which this attachment is to be fixed to the club head is provided on the sucktion disk 11. Said fixing direction can be made discernible also by providing a collar 4 around the air inlet 2 of the cylindrical member 1.
FIG. 4 intends to show not only the state wherein the attachment of this invention has been fixed to the club head but also the principle of the function of said attachment. The attachment can be secured to the club head 14 by pressing the suction disk 11 against the upper surface of said club head 14 in such manner that the whistle A is rectangular in relation to the club face 15. The attachment of this invention can be fixed by such a simple operation. The arrow in broken line in the drawing shows a locus of the club head when the club is swung by a golfer. The arrows in solid line show the direction of the air stream.
When a golf club is swung, the speed of the club head increases gradually from top swing to down swing, and it is most desirable that said speed reaches the maximum at the moment of impact. Moreover, the prerequisite for a good swing is that the club face at the moment of impact is precisely rectangular in relation to the flight direction of the golf ball. Since the vibration plate 7 of the whistle A is adapted to emit a smound when the club head reaches a desirable speed, the attachment of this invention enables the golfer to gain a clear comprehension of the accurate swing by ascertaining whether said attachment produced a sound when the club head was at the precise position of impact. Furthermore, the vibration plate is interchangeable according to the personal difference in the swing speed. I
What is claimed is:
member.
4. An attachment as defined in claim 1 wherein the air inlet of the whistle is formed slightly smaller than the outlet thereof. I
5. An attachment as defined in claim 1 wherein a stopper is provided on a suitable position in the forward portion of the whistle member.
6. An attachment as defined in claim 1 wherein the vibration plate is interchangeable.
