. breakage of the same is prevented; and it consists in providing ajacket with a lining having ridges corresponding to the thickened portion of the bottle, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
Prior to my invention it was old in the art to pack bottles for transportation in crimped paper-or pasteboard packing having numerous criinps or ribs running lengthwise of the bottle and bearing against all portions thereof. Such a packing or protectinglining, however, pressed with equal stress on all portions of the bottle and endangered the bottles by reason of said pressure. 7
My invention avoids this objectionable feature, as will be better understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a cross-section taken through a bottle packed in a box with my improved Safety-packing. Fig. 2 is a similar section taken through a different form of bottle similarly packed. Fig. 3 is a plan view of my improved safety bottle packing, showing the crimped or struck-up ribs.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
It will be understood that when the ribbed case has been placed around the bottle or other article to be protected and the whole incased or inclosed in an outside box or wrapper, the latter serves to prevent the raised portions or ribs of the protector from flattening out when subjected to pressure, thus maintaining their elasticity or degree of rigidity.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
