[5 7] ABSTRACT A humidifier attachment for a guitar which comprises a mounting clip for attachment to the opening of the guitar, resilient arms extending from said mounting clip and a housing mounted on the resilient arms and supporting a body of porous material containing water within the housing of the guitar or the'like.
8 Claims, 7 Drawing Figures HUMIDIFIER ATTACHMENT FOR GUITARS AND THE LIKE This invention relates to musical instruments such as guitars and particularly to a humidifier attachment for such instruments.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In musical instruments such as guitars and the like which are made of wood or similar materials, it is desirable to maintain a humid atmosphere in order to prevent warpage and obviate the resultant adverse effect on the instrument.
It has heretofore been suggested that a humidifying attachment be provided in the guitar which is removed upon use of the guitar.
Among the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and effective guitar attachment which can be left in position even during the playing of the guitar; which will function effectively but at the same time which can be made at low cost.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A humidifier attachment for a guitar which comprises a mounting clip for attachment to the opening of the guitar, resilient arms extending from said mounting clip and a housing mounted on the resilient arms and supporting a body of porous material containing water within the housing of the guitar or the like.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. I is a fragmentary plan view of the guitar with the guitar attachmenttherein.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the guitar attachment.
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on an enlarged scale taken along the line 3-3 in FIG. I.
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken along the line 4l--4 in FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a sectional view taken along the line 5-5 in FIG. 2. I
FIG. 6 is an exploded view of a portion of the guitar attachment.
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of another portion of the attachment.
DESCRIPTION Referring to FIG. I, the guitar attachment is intended for use with instruments such as guitar It] or the like which has a hollow body and opening 11. The attachment 12 comprises a clip 13 which is made of sheet metal and is generally Ushaped (FIG. 3). A resilient pad 14 is provided on one leg of the clip to prevent marring of the body of the musical instrument.
A housing 15 comprising a plastic open-ended tube 16 and plastic end caps 17 forms another portion of the humidifier attachment. The end caps I7 have openings 18. A body of porous material such as foam plastic 19 is provided in the housing for retaining moisture for the humidifying purposes.
A resilient flexible member 20 comprising a latex tube is threaded through openings 21 in the other leg 13b of clip I3 and its free ends are telescoped over the legs 22 of the metal bracket 23. The clip bracket is kept in position by a flattened elongated strip 24 that engages the intermediate portion of the bracket 23 and is held in position by the flanges 25 of the end caps l7.
In use, the foam body 19 can be provided with the desired moisture by simply dipping the attachment in water and squeezing the body 19 through the openings 18 to insure complete permeation with water. The attachment can then be mounted on the guitar opening 11 1 by engaging the clip 13 with the edge of the opening, the pad 14 preventing the marring of the surface of the musical instrument. The resilient member 20 supports the housing 15 and in turn the porous body in spaced relationship to the bottom of the guitar. In this fashion the desired humidifying atmosphere is provided and the attachment can be left in position even during the playing of the instrument without adversely affecting the sound.
Iclaim:
l. A humidifier attachment for guitars and the like comprising a housing,
a body of porous material adapted to contain water in said housing, said housing having open portions thereof exposing parts of the porous body to the atmosphere,
mounting means providing an attachment to the opening in the guitar body and flexible means extending from said mounting means to said housing for supporting said housing within said guitar, and means providing a connection between said housing and said flexible member.
2. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said housing comprises a hollow open ended body, and end caps on said body.
3. The combination set forth in claim 2 wherein said means providing a connection between said housing and said flexible member comprises means held in position by said end caps and connected to said resilient member.
4 The combination set forth in claim 3 wherein said last-mentioned means comprises an elongated member held in position by said end caps on said housing body.
5. The combination set forth in claim 4 wherein said last-mentioned means further includes a bracket having spaced legs extending laterally from said elongated member.
6. The combination set forth in claim 5 wherein said resilient member comprises a length of tubular elastic material,
said mounting means comprising a U-shaped mounting clip,
said clip having openings therein through which said resilient member is threaded,
the ends of said member extending to said laterally extending legs.
7. The combination set forth in claim 1 wherein said clip has a covering on at least one leg thereof to prevent marring of the surface of the guitar.
8. A humidifier attachment for guitars and the like comprising a housing,
a body of porous material adapted to contain water in said housing, said housing having open portions thereof exposing parts of the porous body to the atmosphere,
mounting means providing an attachment to the opening in the guitar body and flexible means extending from said mounting means to said housing for supporting said housing within said guitar,
said housing comprises a hollow open ended body, aclip bracket having spaced legs extending laterally, and end caps on said body, an elongated member extending between and supsaid resilient member comprising a length of tubular p r d by s id end caps on said housing body and elastic material, holding said bracket in position, said mounting means comprising a U-shaped cli 5 the ends of said member extending to said laterally extending legs of said bracket.
said clip having openings therein through which said resilient member is threaded,
