E. R. PARKER. DRAFTI-EQUALIZER.
Patented 001:; 25, 1887.
INVENTOR:

WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELI R. PARKER, 01? WYOMING, AssieNoR OF ONE-HALF TO BENJAMIN s. vAN TUYL, or PETROLIA, ONTARIO, oANADA.
DRAFT-'EQUALIZER.
$PECIFICAI3ION forming part of Letters Patent No. 372,083, dated October 25, 1887.
Application filtd July 18, 1887. Serial No. 244,634. (No model.) Patented in Canada March 16, 1887, No. 26,252.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELI R. PARKER, of Wyoming, in the county of Lambton, Province ofOntario, and Dominion o'fGanada, have invented a certainnew and useful Improvement in Draft-Equalizers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my improvement is to provide a draft-equalizer whereby greater strength,
simplicity, and efficiency are obtained than usual.
I will first describe in detail a draft-equalizer embodying my improvement, and then point out the nature of the improvement in my claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
, Figiirel is a plan view of a draft-equalizer embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the said equalizer, the doubletree being detached. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a modified form of equalizer embodying the main feature of my improvement, and Fig. 4 is a crosssection on the'line w m of Fig. 1.
The doubletree A has trace-hooks B or equivalent devices attached to its outer ends.
A clevis, C, carrying a draft-ring, D, firmly embraces the doubletree at the center thereof, and a bolt, E, is passed through the free ends of the clevis, the doubletree, and theforward end of a hammer-strap, F, the rear end of which is rigidly attached to the upper arm of the clevis. A sheave, G, is mounted to turn loosely on the bolt E as a pivot between the clevis and hammer-strap F, and around the sheave is passed an ordinary equalizing-chain, H, having end hooks, I, to which the inner traces are to be attached.
A draft-equalizer constructed as thus far described is adapted for plowing in orchards, working a horse-power, and in other situa tions, requiring ashort doubletree. For ordinary teaming, however, I provide two additional sheaves, J, on opposite sides of and in line with the central sheave, G, and mount the sheaves J to turn, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, between the ends of two metal plates, K, through the middle points of which the bolt E, carrying the central sheave, G, also passes. In this form the chain H passes back of all three sheaves and carries end trace-hooks, I, as before.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a draft-equalizer, the combination of a doubletree, A, a clevis, O, carrying a draftring, D,- and embracing between its free arms the doubletree, a hammer-strap, F, fixed to an arm of the clevis G, a bolt, E, passed through both armsof the clevis, the doubletree embraced thereby, and the hammer-strap, and a sheave for an equalizing-chain, mounted to turn on the bolt E between the hammer-strap and the arm of the clevis to which the same is attached, substantially as described.
. ELI It. PARKER.
