Abstract
A tool for removing the check valve core, which is removably and threadably received in a valve casing of an inflation valve. The valve has a hollow barrel with a threaded stem therein. The barrel is made in such a way that it may be threadably received in the casing and the stem may be slid into engagement with the valve core so that the core can be threadably removed from the casing. There is ample room inside the barrel to receive the valve core and a bleed hole is formed in the side of the barrel to allow the air from the casing to escape after the valve is removed so that the valve cover will not become a projectile when the tool is removed.

No. 785,983, filed Dec. 23, 1968 and now abandoned.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention is suitable for bleeding air or gas from high pressure aircraft tires and other high pressure containers, as well as low pressure tires, where the release of the valve under high pressure would cause the valve core to act as a projectile thereby injuring persons in the area. The present invention is also suitable for bleeding hydraulic fluid from high pressure tires and other high pressure containers.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an improved tool for removing valve cores from tires and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved tool for removing and for deflating pneumatic tire casings.
A further object of the invention is to provide a valve core removing tool which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and efficient to use.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that the changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. I is a longitudinal cross sectional view of the tool according to the invention, with the adapter in place.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged top view of the tool.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged partial cross sectional view of the tool according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Now with more particular reference to the drawings, a tool having a barrel is shown. The barrel 10 has a stem 11 which is slidably received in a bore 17. The enlarged integral boss portion 13 on the stem will bottom on the bottom of the counterbore to limit the axial movement of the tool and the end 22 of the stem has a slot 15 which will receive the engaging part on the valve core to remove it. An axial blind bore 21' is formed in the end of the stem to receive an end of the valve core. Lateral openings T4 are formed in the barrel to allow the air from the tire to escape. The threaded end 19 is adapted to be threadably received on the valve stem casing. There is ample room inside the barrel in the cavity 23 to receive the valve core. The barrel is knurled at 16 so that it may be easily gripped by the thumb and finger of an operator to thread it onto the valve stem and the hand wheel or handle 12 is knurled at to facilitate removal of the stem by the hand of an operator. The reduced size end 18 of the stem is received in the hand wheel opening and is peened over so that the hand wheel will not come off of the stem.
The bleeder adapter 30 is made up of an annular collar 31 that has internal O- ring grooves 32 and 33. These grooves receive O- rings 34 and 35, which engage the shoulder 36 and the shoulder 37 of the body forming sealing engagement therewith.
An annular channel 38 is formed in the collar and this communicates with the threaded opening 39 which receives the hose 40. Thus, the valve can be removed from the tire by means of the stem and hydraulic fluid from the tire can be admitted to a suitable container through hose 40.
The tool facilitates the removal of air and valve cores from tires and pressure vessels using a tire valve. The holes on the sides of the body will allow the air to bleed from the tire and release the air away from the operator. The center stem has sufficient axial movement to allow the valve core to move completely out of the valve seat.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
