ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,515, dated October 11, 1887.
Application filed April 30, 1887. Serial No. 236,630. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. NO\VOTNY, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scrub-Brush Attachments,
which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im [0 proved scrubbrush attachment; Fig. 2, a transverse central section of the same, and Fig. 3 a perspective view of a,modification.
My device relates to an improvement in attachments for scrub-brushes; and it consists in a metal frame clamped on the brush having a horizontal perforated tube, with a tube within the handle which has a hose attachment thereto, so that water from the hydrant may be discharged through the perforated tube in front of the brush and thus materially assist the cleaning process, all of which will now be fully set forth in detail.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents an ordinary scrub or pavement brush. I provide a metal frame, B, having transverse ribs 0 therein and vertical arms D on the inner side, provided with clamp screws E there in, while oppositely are downturned arms F, provided on the inner sides with pointed studs G, engaging with the wood part of the brush, and thus be retained in position within the frame by means of the clamping-screws E.
The lower parts of the arms F are provided with openings H, to receive therein the horizontal tube or pipe I, closed at the ends, but provided on the inner side with a series of perforations or openings, J. These openings are preferably disposed in three rows or series, one of which is disposed so that the water will be discharged vertically beneath the pipe, and another so disposed as to project the water forwardly from the brush, so as to moisten the dirt, while the third is designed to discharge the Water rearwardly upon the brush. Centrally to this piece I a rearwardly-projecting section of tube, K, is designed to pass through keepers L on the inner part of the metal frame B. This tube is designed to be slightly upturned rearwardly, and forms the handle of the device. Rearwardly the end of this tube or handle K is provided with a coupling and valve,M, to which aseetion of hose is attached. This hose may either be attached to a pump or hydrant, so that the water may pass through the handle and tube I under a pressure.
Fig. 3 represents a modification of my device, where in lieu of the tubular handle K only a short section of the handle connecting with the frame B is provided, and instead of attaching the hose at the upper end of the to handle it is attached directly to the frame B, so as to come above the pipe I, as shown at B.
As will readily be noticed, it is immaterial whether the hose are directly attached to the frame B, at a short distance from the frame 6 B, or at the upper end of the handle, as the various uses and applications will necessitate modifying this feature.
What I claim is In combination with the brush A, the metal frame B, having oppositely-disposed arms D and F, extending down over the wood, the latter arms having openings H, receiving therein the perforated tube I, the set-screw E, and the tube K, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, this 10th day of February, 1887, in the presence of witnesses.
JOHN S. NOIVO'IN Y.
