Description

NiTnn- TaTifgs iiaTnNT Ormea.
LA ROY SUNDERLAND, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
liViPRQVEt/iENT l-N SPERMATORRH 51h-PUNO.
Specification forming part ot' Letters Patent No. 37,Hll6, dated December 9, 1862.
To all whom, b 'may concern:
Be it known that 1, La ROY SUNDERLAND, ot' Boston, in t-he county of Suffolk and State Ot'Massachusetts, have invented a certa-in new and useful Instrument for the (lure of Spermatorrhea; and I do hereby decla-re that the followingdescription, takenin connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact description 0r specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles ot' in y said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguishedi'rom allothers ot'a similar class, together with such parts as l claim and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.
The iigures of the accompanying plate of drawings represent my in'iprovements.
Figure l is a plan or top view of my improved seminal-guard. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section. Fig. 3 is a iront view.
The present invention consists in a new and improved spermatorrheal instrument or seminal-guard i'or the prevention and cure of spermatorrhea.
Previous to my invention, rings have been used for that purpose, but tro-.n their peculiar construction they were, when placed upon the penis, always in direct contact with the same, which it is evident served rather to increase than to diminish the sexual excitement, thereby tending much more to"promote than to prevent the disease which it is desired to cure.
My invention, therefore, consists in so torming a ring to be used for the prevention and cure of spern'nitorrhea, that while it may be secured to the body ot' the person it will not come in direct contact with the penis when not excitedcontact serving to provoke exeitement-but may be so arranged as to give the necessary alarm to the person upon the rst approach of excitement of the penis produced by any ot' the well known causes ot spermatorrhea. I accomplish this result by attaching to a ring, made ot' suflicient diameter to wholly clear and be free of contact with the penis when placed over the sa-me, an
elastic spring-lever armed with teeth or sharp points and admitting ot' being adjusted and set at any desired horizontal and vertical angle with regard to the periphery of 'the ring, whereby it can be regulated so as to conform to any and all positions and sizes of thepenis.
a a., in the accompanying drawings, represent a ring, made ot' metal or oi' any other suitable material. b is an elastic springlever swinging upon a. pivot, c, ofthe ring, and si t at any desired position or horizontal angle with the ring by means ot' a set-screw, d, its elasticity allowing it to be adjusted to any desired vertical angle. This spring-lever b has formed upon' its sides and end teeth or sharp points c c, Src., the object ot which will be hereii'iat'ter referred to. The ring c being made ot' sufiicient diameter to wholly clear or not come in contact with the penis, is placed over the same, against the body ot the person, the lever b being uppermost or above the penis, as represented in Figs. 2 and 3, the position ot the penis being represented by the lower dotted red circle, Fig. 3, and is secured in that position by means of cords ff and g g, passing respectively around the body and around the scrotum, up the spine. After the ring a is arranged and secured as above described to the body ofthe person, the springlever I) is adjusted and set at any desired angie, both vertical and horizontal, Fig. 1, with regard to the ring, so as to cause it to cont'orm and to be adapted more particularly to the size and position of the penis. The penis when excited by any one-of the usual and ordinary causes rises into the position, or thereabout, represented by the upper dotted red circle, Fig. 3, and impingcs against the sharp points or teeth e c of the lever b, which cause a magnetic shock, as it were, to pass through the person awaiting and warning him ot' his danger.
lt will be evident that in lieu oi attaching the ring to the body of the person by cords, it may be attached in a variety of modes other than that hereindescribed, and, also, that the ring can be turned around and secured as before, bringing the lever a little to the right or left ot' the position represented in the drawings when desired. It will be still further evident that, instead ot' one adjustable springlever, any desired number can be provided,4
the object of the present invention being to so arrange a seminal-guard to be attached to the body of the person for the preif'ention and cure of spermatorrhea, that, while it will not come in direct contact with the penis, when not excited, it will be capable ot imparting the necessary warning upon the first approach of sexual excitement.
Having thus described my mprevements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured te me by Letters Patent, is-
1. The use of im adjustable elastic spring .lever or levers, armed with sharp peints or teeth, and arranged substantially es herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the rin g a and spring lever or levers b, arranged together substantally as herein described, and forming asemnat-guerd, to be used for the prevention and eure of spermatorrhea.
LA ROY SUNDERLAND.
