U ITED STATES JAMES w. HENRY, .oE PROVIDENCE,
RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO J. w.
HENRY 8t 00.
CUFF-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 370,786, dated October 4, 1887.
Application filed June 10, 1887. Serial No. 240,925. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES W. HENRY, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cuff-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exactdescription of the same.
the fastening-hook being ornamented.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the holder as applied to a cuff and in connection with a sleeve. Fig. 2 is a separate view of the holder with a modified form of head.
It is desirable, particularly with ladies cuffs, to provide means of ornamental appearance to retain the cuff in a fixed relation to the wearers sleeve. Heretofore various devices havebeen used for this purpose; but they have been objectionable to a greateror less degree by reason of their complex construction. My invention is designed to overcome these objectionsand to produce in one piece the holder entire, and of'such a construction as to necesspring material, the extreme inner end of said its under surface.
hook being turned outwardly slightly, so as to allow of its more ready insertion over the edge of the cuff. At the opposite end I provide a round stud, which may have a setting in it or be made plain, and from the central under side of this stud projects a sharp pointed bent hook, c.
As shown in Fig. 2, the head of the holder may be varied to include any ornamental design, and in the figure referred to I have shown a ball with the fastening-pin projecting from The body of the pin may be ornamented to any extent desirable.
In operation the spring-hook b is slipped over the edge of the cuff and the hook c is inserted into the material of the sleeve, this being adjusted so as to allow any amount of the cuff to be visible.
I claim-- 1. A cuff-holder consisting of the body portion a, the spring-hook adapted to the edge of the cuff, and a fastening-hook, c, at the opposite end for attachment to the sleeve, substantially as described.
2. The herein-described cuflholder, consisting of abody portion, a, a hooked end for connection with the cuff, an ornamental stud upon the opposite end, and a fasteningdevice 0n the stud for connection with the sleeve, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specificationin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. JAMES W. HENRY.
