Description

i To all whom it may concern.:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
H. M. VVYETH, OF BLOOMFIELD, IOWA.
iMPROVEMENT IN PUMPS.
Specification forming i art ot` Letters Patent No. 37,024, (lated November 25, i892.
Be itknown that I, H. H. WYETH, ofBloomfield, in the county of Davis and State ot' Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vooden BOX-Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l represents a perspective View of my improved pump, and Fig. 2 represents a central section.
In the drawings, A represents the main boX having a bottom, B, and a division-piece, C, which extends up as high as the pun1p-boxes a a are ever elevated when in operation. From the inside ofthe top of box A extends two pump-handles orlever-supports, D D, between which the handles or lever E is fulcrumed, and to which the boxes aa are connected by rods b b, as fully indicated in the drawings. The end pieces of the box A are grooved out to fit in between the side pieces, as seen in Fig. l. The division-piece C has a perpendicular hole, c, bored in its lower end corresponding with the hole d in the bottom B, and a horizontal hole, c, whose outer ends are closed by the valves ff. By the above construction ot' the center or division piece the pump can be constructed very cheap and in a durable inanner.
The operation will be readily understood by those skilled in the art by a simple reference to the drawings. The arrows indicate the course of the water. It will be understood, ot' course, that the valves open and close alternately. From the common water-chamber F the water ows out ofthe spout G. The pipe leading to the well is to be connected in any well-known manner to the bottom B.
I am aware that Tshaped pipes are common, and that two pump-cylinders may be supplied with water thereby, with or without valves at the induction-ports, as an optional expedient; but in the arrangement I present a two-fold function is performed by the partition between the cylinders, and the use of pipes is hence avoided.
I therefore claim- The combination of the central divisionpiece, C, with its holes c and d and valvesff, with the other parts of the pump, the whole constructed and arranged for operation substantially as shown and described.
M. WYETH. XVitnesses:
J. H. BLANK, WM. J. LAW.
