MICHIGAN.
PENDULUMPOWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,176, dated August 30, 1887.
Application filed July 23, 1886. Serial No. 208,853. (No modem. u
The object of my invention is to utilize the,
pendulum-power to run light machinery, drag saws, Snc.; and it consistsrin the combination of devices hereinafter explained andclaimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to dezo scribe the exact meansby which'I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents a framework for supporting the operative mechanism.A
Across this frame, and supported in suitable 2 5 bearings, I place the shaft B, on which is secured the pendulum-rod B', as shown in Fig. 2. To the lower end of this rod is attached the weight C, and at a poi-nt below the shaft B I attach the arm D, the outer end of which is .3o pivoted to the bell-crank lever E. It is evident that by pulling down thearm c ofthe lever, and then releasing it, the pendulum will be caused to oscillate. g
To the upper end of the pendulum-rod is pivoted the bar F, which connects this rod to the arm F on the shaft G, and also the arm H,A
'carrying on its free end a toothed pawl, h,rest ing on. the ratchet-wheel I, secured to the driv- I ing-shaft J, the said shaft carrying on one end a band-wheel, K, and on the opposite end a balance-wheel, L. To the lower end of the arm F is pivoted the arm M, carrying on its free end a toothed pawl, m, which is held up against the lower side of the ratchet-wheel I by means of the spring N, as shown in Fig. 2.
It is evident from this construction of my improved machine that when the pendulum is putin motion the two pawls will cause the ratchet-wheel to revolve, which in turn will revolve the band-wheel K through the driving-shaft .Landthus furnish power for running any light machinery, and at a very trilling eX- pense. When the pendulum is once started and the machinery set in motion, all that will be required will be to pull on the lever occasionally to keep the machinery in motion. g Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y The pendulum-rod B on the shaft B, an carrying the weight C, the arm D, and bellcrank-lever E, in combination with the bar F, the arm Fv on the shaft'G, arms H and M, carrying Atoothed pawls, the spring N, and the ratchet-wheel I on the driving-shaft, all con- 65,V
structed and arranged to operate substantially as herein described. r
DEDERICK GERSTEIN.
