IMPROVEMENT IN ELBOW-JOINT BANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 36,911. dated November 11, 1862.
To aZZ whom it may concern:.
Be it known that I, STITES M. PARSE, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented an Elbow- Joint Band; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being herein had to the drawings accompanying this specification,and which make part of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing and adapting a band to hold and connect the mitered ends of sheet-n1etal pipes.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the elbow of a Stovepipe with the new band in position. Fig. 2 shows the band alone. Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
The hand is made of metal, shaped to fit the inner and outer angles of the elbow at the joint. The entrance of the points A into the sharp inner angle, B, holds them secure, and the riveting of the extensions 0 on the outer angle of the band to the inner angles of the pipe secures the whole firmly together.
The advantages are an economy of labor in making the angles of pipes and in fitting them together, the strength is double that of the ordinary locking together by bending the edges to lap into each other, a less costly material can be used for the joints, and, lastly, a smoke-tightjoint is secured.

A joint-band when constructed in the manner and for the purpose herein-above specified W. M. GOODING, DANIEL CRONIN.
