Abstract
An automatic spool feeding method and apparatus for automatic winders. Spools are properly arranged and held in a spool supply means on poles through the inner diameter portions of the core tubes of the spools. Spool transfer means transfers a fixed number of spools from the poles of said spool supply means to a spool holding line, which spool holding line is circulatable. Spool feed means receives the spools from the spool holding line and feeds them to the pegs of an automatic winder.

Claims (5)
1. An automatic spool feeding method for automatic winders comprising the steps of aligning a plurality of spools each having a hollow bobbin and yarn wound thereon by placing the hollow bobbins onto at least one upstanding pole, moving an individual spool off the pole and transferring the spool to a spool holder which engages the internal surface of the hollow bobbin for holding the bobbin and causing the thus transferred spool to be held by the spool holder, then moving said spool holder to a position adjacent a peg of a spool feed means onto which the hollow bobbin can be positioned, then releasing the engagement of the spool holder with the hollow bobbin and transferring the thus released spool onto said peg, then moving said peg to a position adjacent to a peg of an automatic winder onto which the hollow bobbin can be positioned, and transferring the spool onto said peg of the automatic winder.
2. An automatic spool feeding method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising detecting whether the spool has been properly positioned on the spool holder, and stopping at least temporarily the carrying out of the subsequent steps if the spool has not been properly positioned on the spool holder.
3. An automatic spool feeding apparatus for automatic winders comprising a spool aligning and holding means having at least one upstanding pole, a spool holding means having a plurality of uniformly spaced spool holders each including means for engaging the internal surface of a hollow bobbin of a spool for holding the spool, and spool circulating means for successively circulating said spool holders along a path at one point along which the spool holders are successively aligned with said pole, a spool transfer means having a lift movable upwardly and downwardly adjacent said pole for transferring the spools individually from said pole to a spool holder on said spool holding means, and a spool feed means having a transfer peg movable between a spool receiving position adjacent a second point on said path and a spool delivering position, and spool moving means operatively associated with said transfer peg for transferring the spool from the transfer peg to a peg of an automatic winder at said spool delivering position.
4. An automatic spool feeding apparatus as claimed in claim 3 in which the spool aligning and holding means is a carriage having the pole disposed thereon, said carriage being movable between the position in which the pole is at said one point on said path and a spool loading position.
5. An automatic spool feeding apparatus as claimed in claim 3 in which said spool feed means comprises a swing arm pivoted for movement in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the peg of the automatic winder when said peg is in the spool receiving position, a peg carrier having the transfer peg thereon mounted on one end of the swing arm for rotation in a plane perpendicular to the direction of movement of said one end of the swing arm, means coupled to said swing arm for pivoting the swing arm between a spool receiving position, whereat the transfer peg receives the spool from the spool holder and a delivery position whereat the transfer peg delivers the spool to the peg of the automatic winder, and means coupled to said peg carrier and responsive to the pivoting of the swing arm toward said delivery position for turning the peg carrier to bring the transfer peg into the delivering position thereof whereat the transfer peg is in alignment with the peg of the automatic winder, and in which said spool moving means comprises a push-out arm pivotably mounted relative to the swing arm for pivotal movement in a plane perpendicular to the direction of movement of said swing arm, and means coupled to said push-out arm for pivoting the push-out arm toward the peg of the aUtomatic winder when the swing arm has arrived at said delivery position to push the spool from the transfer peg to the peg of the automatic winder.
