To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANCIS B. BERRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screens, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to the construction of screens for windows and doors, and the object is to obviate the necessity of mortising and tenoning the corners of the screen-frame, and to provide an angle-iron or clamp whereby the corners of the frame are clamped together and the netting held in place upon the frame work.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of one corner of a screen provided with myimproved angle-iron orcornerpiece. Fig. 2 is perspective in detail of said anglc-iron inverted. Fig. 3is a detail in per spective of a lift employed to raise and lower the frame. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a corner of a screen or door provided with my improved angleiron adapted to receive a brace, and Fig. 5 is a portion of a bottom of a window screen provided with my improved lift.

A represents the frame, the corners of which are either beveled. or straight, and B the not ting, upon which is placed the molding G, in this instance of semicircular form and extending from end to end of the frame.
D represents my angle iron or clamp, mounted upon the corners of the frame,whieh consists of the arms or sockets D, adapted to receive the ends of strips 0, said arms extending at right angles to each other and. concave or interiorly curved to conform to the shape in cross-section of the binding-stri p G. A web or flange, D connects the arms D, and pro- Jects inwardly over the netting, forminga brace therefor at the corners of the screen.
Extending outwardly from each of the arms D are perforated ears D through which screws D" are passed into the frame A. Near the ends of each of the arms D are similar screw-holes, D through which screws D are passed into the bindingstrips C and frame A.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a form or arrangement in which my angle-iron is adapted for use at the corners of the lower half of a screendoor. In this instance it is usually desirable to have diagonal strips or a brace passing from corner to corner of the lower half, and I find it preferable to mount a similar clamp on the opposite corner and retain the ends of the diagonal braces between the webs D thereof, perforating the same, as at D, for the reception of a binding-screw or bolt.
Any suitably-designed rosette, C, may be used to connect the diagonal strips where they cross, as shown by dotted lines, Fig. 4..
For the purpose of providing additional means for securing the binding-strip 0 upon the frame to utilize short strips, and also to provide means for raising and lowering the screen, I have constructed a lift, E, (see Fig. 5,) which is formed with a finger-hold, E, and a socket, E, to permit the passage of the strip 0 therethrough, said socket being perforated, as at E, for the reception of one or more screws passing through the same and into said strip 0 and frame.
Having described my invention and its op eration, what I claim is 1. A clamp for window'screens, comprising arms provided with sockets for the reception of the ends of binding-strips and adapted to be secured upon the outer face of the screenframe, substantially as specified.
2. In a screen, a clamp comprising arms provided with a bindingstrip receiving semi- I circular sockets, perforated for the reception of screws,and connected byaweb, and adapted to be secured upon the outer face of the screenframe, substantially as specified.
3. A clamp for window screens, comprising arms provided with semicircular sockets, connected by a web, and perforated for the reception of screws, and having flanges or cars extending laterally from said arms, and perforated for the reception of screws, and adapted to be secured upon the outer surface of the screen-frame, substantially as specified.
4.. In a windowscreen, the combination of a frame and netting therefor with a semicircular binding-strip and a clamp having sockets for said strips and perforated for the reception of attaching-screws, substantially as speci- 5. The combination of the frame A, having the netting B, the binding-strips G, for securing the netting to the frame, and the strip-securing clamp D, having the connecting-web D 10 and arms D, substantially as specified.
6. The combination of the frame A, strip 0, and finger-hold E, interiorly curved to embrace said strip, and provided with the screwhole E and screw Eflsubstantially as specified.
7. The combination, with the frame A, having the netting B, and binding-strip O, for securing the netting to the frames, of the strip-securing corner-clamps D, oppositely arranged FRANCIS B, BERRIEN.
