  • the invention is concerned with a combinedpackaging and display case for cigarette or pipe lighters and similar small items formed of a suitable material such as cardboard which is scored for suitable folding and gluing to define a two section container, the removable bottom portion of which has a suitable opening therein for mounting and displaying the lighter and the top portion of which, when separated from the bottom portion, provides a suitable closed shipping container for the lighter.
  • the invention is directed to a suitably scored and perforated cardboard blank for folding and gluing to provide an apertured display section for mounting an article therein and a separable section for receiving the article and forming a packaging andshipping container therefore.
  • One embodiment of the invention is a suitably shaped and scored rectangularly shaped blank having apertures in one portion thereof for mounting and displaying the article and a second non-apertured portion, each of which sections are provided with gluing flaps to form a sealed enclosure for the article.

  • the combined packaging and display case of the invention is formed from a suitable substantially rectangular shaped blank of cardboard or other suitable material as shown in FIG. 1 and provided with two longitudinally extending transversely spaced score lines 3 and 9. Extending outwardly from score line 9 is a suitable gluing flap having a notched opening 16 therein dividing the flap into two portions 8 and 8a. Across the top of the blank of FIG. 1 the score lines 3, 9 and an end wall of the blank are connected by arcuate portions 4 and 6 and concave score lines 10, 13. Similarly the bottom portion of the cardboard blank is provided with arcuate portions 5 and 7 and score lines 11, 14.
  • the blank of FIG. 1 when folded along foldlines 3 and 9, with flaps 8 and 8a glued to the inner faces of portions 2, 2a of the blank provides an open-ended envelope as shown in FIGS. 2 and 5 of the drawing.
  • the openings 19 and 20 of FIG. 1 provide for display of the cigarette lighter or other object placed therein. Such openings have notches 21, 23 and 24, 22 therein corresponding to and for accommodating projections on the lighter such as the sparkling wheel of the lighter and other such projections. It will be understood that the said openings 19, 20 will be of a size and shape cor responding to the object to be received therein, which I may be other than a cigarette lighter.
  • the bottom portion of the envelope of FIG. 2 may have the portion 5, 7 folded upon dotted lines 11, 14 and secured together by any suitable adhesive to close the bottom of the envelope of FIG. 2.

  • FIG. 2 For delivery to a purchaser or mailing, the envelope or case of FIG. 2 may be severed along lines 17, 18 of FIG. 1 and the lighter or otherobject removed from the display section-and placed within the upper portion 2 of FIG. 2. Thereafter the flaps 4, '6 may be folded along lines 10, 13 and flaps 17, 18 folded along lines 12, 15 and either glued or otherwise secured in place to form the shipping case of FIGS. 6 and 7.
