SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,146, dated August 9, 1887.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. GoRsUoH, of Martinsburg, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Spring-Tooth Harrows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itpertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in spring-tooth harrows; and it consists in, first, a harrow-frame in which the side and cross bars are composed of double iron bars,-between which are secured springs to which the harrow-teeth are fastened; second, a harrow composed of two sections, which are hinged together at one or both ends by means of a toothed coupling; third, a harrow composed of two sections hinged together at their rear ends, and connected at their front ends by means of the coupling-bar, which is provided with a harrow-tooth, as will be more fully described hereinafter.

The lower cross-bars, b, are secured between the two side bars, a, and the upper one to the upper side of the said sidebars. Each frame A is provided-with the handles B, draw-bars B and the curved or bent teeth 0, which are carried by the springs D, secured between the cross-bars b of the frames. To the upper ends of the springs D is secured the part 6 of the clamp E, by means of a rivet, e", the head of which enters one of the indentations or recesses c in the teeth 0, when the teeth are clamped between the parts 0 e of the clamp E, and thus serve to hold the teeth in the position to which they have been adjusted, and a means of adjusting the teeth evenly. The two parts 6 e of the clamp are the apertures in the flange of the said parts. Instead of the head of the rivet entering the recesses of the teeth, a lug may be cast on the clamp for this purpose. The two sections or frames are hinged together by means of two eye-plates, 11, secured to the rear ends of the frames, and having a bolt, 11', passed through the eyes thereof. To the forward ends of the sections or frames are also secured eye-plates d, which receive the rearwardly-bent ends of the coupling-bar F, which ends are held in the eyes of the said plates by keys, as shown, or the ends may be screw-threaded for the reception of nuts. To the under side of the coupling F is secured a plate or bar, f, between i which and the coupling-bar is secured a'spring, D, to which is secured a tooth in a manner similar to that above described. Instead of uniting the sections or frames, as above described, the coupling F may be used for connecting the rear ends, and a coupling, F, simi lar in construction to that of F, but longer and carrying two teeth and draft attachment, may be employed.
Curved shovclsG may, if desired, be secured to the teeth 0, as shown in the drawings, the shovels being provided with keepers g and screws g for this purpose. The frames or sections can be used separately or coupled together, as desired, and the teeth can be reversed-that is, they can be secured in the clamps carried by the springs, so that they will point either forwardly or rearwardly, as may be found desirable. By my means of securing the teeth to the springs they can be easily and evenly adjusted, and when adjusted will be firmly and securely held in position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-- 1. A barrow-frame having its side and cross bars composed of double iron bars secured together, and provided with tooth-carrying springs secured between the double cross-bars, substantially as shown and described.
