More specifically, the present invention relates to such a device which is also capable of changing the tint of the various designs. Even more specifically, the present invention relates to such device wherein the design parameters of color, configuration and tint are readily and easily interchangeable.
There is a substantial need, particularly in art classes, for a device for simultaneously studying the effects of configuration, color and tint on various designs. Heretofore, there has not been a single device which allows the effects of these three design parameters to be simultaneously studied.
OBJECTS AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION With this discussion in mind, it is a principal object of the present invention to provide a device which allows the design parameters of configuration, color and tint to be simultaneously compared and studied.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide such a device by which an infinite number of designs can be created during study by interchanging the various parameters of configuration, color and tint.
It is an even further object of the present invention to provide such a device which is compact and portable.
It is yet a further object of the present invention to provide such a device which may be inexpensively manufactured.
These objects are achieved in accordance with the present invention by the provision of a multiple design viewer device including a substantially flat rectangular support structure. The support sutructure has a central section having a plurality of upwardly facing transverse support slots. The transverse support slots are adapted to receive a plurality of color and configuration plates each having a different design thereon consisting of a given combination of configurations and colors. v
The support structure also includes a pair of end sections each having upwardly facing framed compartments. The framed compartments are adapted to receive tint plates. Each of the tint plates consists of a sheet of suitable material of a particular color. When the plurality of color and configuration plates are as- I sembled into the transverse support slots of the support structure, the operator or student may observe the composite design by viewing through the various color and configuration plates. In addition, the tint of the composite design may be selectively altered by inserting various tint plates in the framed compartments of the support structure.
Additionally, the support structure may be constructed in such a manner to provide a portable carrymg case.
Other objects and features of the present invention will be made clear by reference to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the multiple design viewer in accordance with the present inven- 5 tion;
FIG. 2 is an end view of the device of FIG. 1 when assembled; and
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a modification of the device of the present invention wherein the multiple design viewer is made portable.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION With reference now to FIG. I of the drawings, a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail. The multiple design viewer in accordance with the present invention includes a substantially flat rectangular support structure 1 having a cen tral section 2 andend sections 3 and 4. Central section 2 has a plurality of transverse support slots 5 therein. Transverse support slots 5 are suitably dimensioned to support therein a plurality of color and configuration plates 6, 7, 8, 9, l0 and 11. The color and configuration plates 6-11 consist of square frames 6a-11a, respectively, supporting square transparent sheets 6b-1lb, respectively. Each of the transparent sheets 6b-l lb have thereon designs 6c-llc, respectively, such as geometrical designs. Each of the designs 6c-l1c is of a different configuration and a different transparent color.
. Each of the end sections 3 and 4 have upwardly facing framed compartments 3a and 4a, respectively. At opposite ends of the support structure are slots 3b and 4b which open into framed compartments 3a and 4a,
respectively. Framed compartments 3a and 4a are adapted to receive through slots 3b and 4b tint plates 12 and 13, respectively. Tint plates 12 and 13 consist of sheets of suitable material each of a different color. Tint plates 12 and 13 may conveniently have suitable handles 12a and 13a, respectively, thereon to facilitate their handling.
As shown in FIG. 2, when the plurality of color and configuration plates 6-11 are assembled into the transverse support slots'S of the support structure 1, the observer or student may view a composite design from either end section of the device. It will be apparent that the color and configuration plates 6-11 may be rotated to be supported on any of their four equal sides, thereby making it possible to alter the resultant composite design. It is furthermore apparent, that the color and configuration plates 6-11 may be interchanGed in the various support. slots 5, to thus further alter the resultant composite design. As will even further be apparent from FIG. 2, when the tint plates 12 and/or 13 are positioned within the framed compartments 3a and 4a, the tint of the resultant composite design may be selectively altered.
It is to be understood that the various elements of the multiple design viewer of the present invention may be made of any suitable materials. For instance, the support structure 1 may be made of light weight metal, thick ply cardboard, wood, leather or synthetic leather, or any other desirable material. The frames 6a-1Ia could also be made of any suitable material, such as those mentioned above. The cOlor and configuration plate sheets 6b-llb could be made of any suitable material, such as transparent plastic or glass. The tint plates 12 and 13 could conveniently be made of any suitable material capable of exhibiting a solid color, such as cardboard, metal, wood, etc.
It is to be further understood that the scope of the present invention is not limited to the specific structures shown. For instance, the color and cOnfiguration plates 6-11, need not include frames 6a-11a. Rather, these plates could consist merely of sheets of sturdy transparent material, such as glass or plastic. It is furthermore to be understood, that although the preferred embodiment is shown with six transverse support slots, color and configuration plates, any number more than one could be used. It is also to be understood that the device may include a great many more color and configuration plates than the number of transverse support slots. For instance, the device of the present in- Vention might include six support slots as shown, but may have an infinite number of color and configuration plates. The various color and configuration plates could thus be selectively interchanged. Similarly, although the device illustrated will accommodate two tint plates at any given time, it is to be understood that the viewer device may include an infinite number of tint plates. Thus, the tint plates could be selectively interchanged. Also the device might include only one framed compartment.
With reference now to FIG. 3 of the drawings, a modification of the multiple design viewer device of the present invention will be described.
The support structure 1 is provided with suitable hinges or fold portions la, lb, and 1d. Therefore, the support structure may be folded to provide a compact portable carrying case structure. This may be achieved in any suitable manner, such as the provision of overlap sections 14 and 15 and handle 16. As will be apparent from FIG. 3, the portable carrying case structure may be folded with the color and configuration plates 6-11 in place in transverse support slots 5. Furthermore, the portable structure may be dimensioned such that a suitable number of extra color and configuration plates 17 might be accommodated. Similarly, the portable structure might be dimensioned such that a suitable number of extra tint plates 18 might be accommodated. When it is necessary to move the multiple design viewer device to a new location, the device need only be assembled as shown in FIG. 3 and easily transported.
It will thus be apparent that a novel multiple design viewer device has been provided. It is possible by means of this device to create and view an infinite number of composite design combinations, selectively may be altered or modified without departing from the spirit or scope thereof.
