SOHEYER NATHAN,
PATENT OFFICE.
on NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED BEL'T AND POCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,996, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed May 20, 1887.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SoHnYER NATHAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Gash-Pockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved cashpocket to be used by waiters, salesladies, and others, said pocket being worn around the waist and provided with one or more partitions for forming pockets for the bills, coins, 850., so as to conveniently make change; and the invention consists of acash'pocket attached by an upwardly-extending flap to a belt, said flap being re-enforced by a transverse stiffening-p1ate. The pocket is provided with several sub-pockets, the upper ends of which are hemmed and provided with elastics, so as to keep the sub-pockets closed. 7
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved cash-pocket; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on line a :r, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a cash pocket, which is made of leather or other suitable material, and provided with an upwardly-extending flap, a, that is made integral with the rear wall, A, of the pocket and attached to abelt, B,which is applied by abuckle at one end and holes for the buckle at the other end to the waist of the wearer. The flap a is reenforced by a stiffening-plate, b, of sheet metal or other suitable material, which is retained between two lines of stitches and extended transversely across the entire width of the rear wall of the pocket, so as to stiffen the Serial No. 238,812. (No model.)
} upper part of the pocket which is connected to the belt. The re-enforcing plate I) has a slight curvature, 'so as to fit to the waist. The cashpocket A may be made with one or more additional pockets, d, in the main pocket, which serve for inserting the bills and coins, the upper edges of said pockets being provided with hems d d, in which elasticse are arranged, that are attached at both ends to the re-enforced rear wallof the pocket. By the elastics of the hems d d the pockets are tightly closed at their upper ends, while the elastic hems give sufficiently for the insertion of the hand in inserting money into the pockets or for getting at the money in making change. The stiffeningplate I) resists the strain of .the elastic hems, so that the hems are tightly closed against the rear wall of the pocket. In this manner a convenient cash-pocket is furnished, in which the money is securely retained and from which the money cannot escape by accident.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a waist-belt, ofa cashpochet having an upwardly-extending rear wall attached to said belt, and one or more pockets provided with elastic hems, the rear wall of said pocket beingprovided with a transverse re-cnforcing plate, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SCHEYER NATHAN.
