G. ALVON SHOLLY. LAST BLOGK FASTENER.
Paterited Aug. 9; 1887.
UNITED STATES GUSTAVUS A. VON SHOLLY,
PATENT OFFICE.
or FLUSH-ING, NEW YORK.
LAST-BLOCKYFASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,870, dated August 9, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVUS A.VON SuoL- LY, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Flushing, in the county of Queens and State of New York, haveinvented a new anduseful Improvementin Lasts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. I
My invention relates to improved means of fastening the block to a boot or shoe last; and i it consists in the construction and arrange: ment of the parts of the same, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a semicircular locking plate, which is secured to the last and adapted to engage with the block, the said plate being mounted in a circular recess formed partially in the top of the last and partially in the block, and having an operating-handle projecting above the top surface of the last and block. I attain this object by the construction illustated in the accompanying drawings,wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a last with my improved form of locking-plate shown in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the last and block,with the plate in a locked position. Fig. 4 is a top plan view,looking at the rear, and showing the plate unlocked.
A indicates a last having'the usual form of block, B, mounted in connection therewith. On the top portion of the last A and block B a circular recess, a, is formed, a portion of which is situated in the last A and a portion in the block B. A semicircular plate, 0, is pivotally mounted in the said recess a by means of-a screw,S,passing therethrough and into the last A. U
The plate 0 is constructed with a central curved projection, 0, through which the screw Serial No.231.788. (No model.)
Fig. 2. The plate 0 is also provided with an operatinghandle, c, which projects above the top surface of thelast, so that itmay be readily grasped for the purpose of operating the plate 0;
WVhen the plateO is turned in alocking position, as shown in Fig. 3, a portion thereof rests on the block B anda portion on the last, so that a clamping between the block and last is obtained.
The screw S passes through the plate 0, as hereinbei'ore described, and then passes into an internally screw threaded socket, S, as shown in Fig. 3, whereby a metallic bearing is formed for the said screw.
The novelty and utility of my invention be ing obviously apparent, it is unnecessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. Thecombination,withthelast Aandbloek B, having 'a'circular recess, a, a portion of which is arranged in each of said parts, of the semicireularlocking-plate O, pivotally screwed to the'last A, and having slots 0' c'on each side of the pivotal point of the said plate, the stud or pin c",secured to the last A, and with which the slots 0 c engage, and the operating-handle 0 substantially as described.
2. In a last-block fastener, the semicircular 1:)ivotally-mounted locking-plate 0, having the slots 0, in combination with the stud or pin 0, substantially as described.
