To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. Fox,a citizen ofthe United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Car-Coupling, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a ear-coupling by means of which the ears may be readily connected and by which they may also be readily disconnected in an v position, even it not in line with each other.
The invention consists in the various features of improvement hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a bottom view ot' the adjoining ends of a pair of cars 'provided with myimproved coupling, showing one ofthe couplings in horizontal section. Fig. 2 is an end view of the coupling. Fig. 3 is a top view thereof', showing it open; Fig. et, a front view ofthe draw-head.
The letter a represents a hollow or tubular drawbar terminating in a rod, b, which is attached at its rear end to the bottom ot' the car A, in well-known manner, within a casing, c, so that the d raw-bar has a slight lateral play. The link introduced into'recess my isheld in place by a pin, that may beintrodueed through an aperture, n, made in the end of head f, and opening` into recess m at right angles thereto.
W'hen it is desired to uncouplea pair of ears 0 provided with my improved coupling, one or both of the spring-bolts 7L are withdrawn by lever o to permit the heads f to become disengaged. 1t will be seen that even if the cars are not in line with each other the springbolts may always be readily withdrawn. The cars may be re-eoupled before or alter the heads f are locked to the draw-bars.
