Description

(No Model.)
F. G. HUGHES.
FASTENING FOR DENTAL FLASKS. No. 367,401. Patented Aug. 2, 1887.
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK GEORGE HUGHES, OF GALT, ONTARIO, CANADA.
FASTENING FOR DENTAL F LASKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,401, dated August 2, 1887.
Application filed February 14,1887. Serial No. 227,489.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK GEORGE Huerrns, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Galt, in the county of Waterloo, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful Fastening for Dent-a1 Flasks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fastenings for dental flasks which are used for casting rubber palates; and the object of my invention is to provide means whereby the covers of the flasks may be'secured in place in a more expeditious manner than by the use of screws and nuts, by which these flasks are now held together. I attain this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which--' Figure 1 is a perspective view of a flask provided with my improved fastenings. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lower box, and Fig. 3 a similar view of the upper box. Fig. 4 is an under side View of the cover, and Fig. 5 is a sectional elevation of the flask complete. Fig. 6 is a separate view of one of the clamps.
Similar letters refer to si milarparts through out the several views.
The lower box, A, has secured to it several pairs of the lugs a, and near to two or more of these pairs of lugs are the lugs b, for the purpose hereinafter stated.
The upper. box, B, is provided with the steadying-pins c, which project below its lower edge.
In placing the upper and lower box together when they contain a plaster mold, it is necessary that no lateral motion which would injure the mold should occur. This is guarded against by the pins 0, which, passing between the lugs a and the lugs 1), guide the upper box directlyinto its place. The several parts .of the flask are held together by the clamps C, Fig. 6, which are provided each with a-hook, d, and slot f at one end and with lateral arms or shoulders e e at the opposite end. The flask-cover D is provided with the lugs g, corresponding with the lugs a on the lower box,
but with the addition of the upward-turned limbs h. When the flask has been placed together preparatory to casting, the clamps G are placed between the lugs a with their shoulders 6' close against the under sidesof (No model.) Patented in Canada March 26, 1887, No. 26,325.
the lugs. They also pass between the lugs g on the cover, and have their hooks d overhanging the cover. On the cover D are also fixed the dowels a which take into the holes I) in the box B, as shown in Fig. 3, and thereby hold the cover in place before the clamps are applied.
The several parts of the flask are tightened together by driving the keys E through the slotf and over the lugs g of the cover,.which is a much quicker way of securing the flask together than by the present mode of turning nuts down upon screws.
While the palate'is being heated the hooks d, engaging the sockets z", will be found to hold the parts sufflcientl y for all practical purposes; but when placed in the press the parts of the flask must be steadied, and it will be necessary to employ the keys.
Having now fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In combination with box B, a box, A, provided with lugs a a, arranged in pairs and separated a distance from each other, cover D, provided with lugs g 97, also arranged in pairs, clamps 0, provided with lateral arms or shoulders e e at one end and hook d and slot fat the other end, and wedges E, adapted, substantially as shown, to pass through the slotf and bear upon the lugs g.
2. The combination, in a dental flask,of the lower box, A, provided with the lugs aand b, the upper box, B, having the pins 0 and holes 12 andthe cover D, having notches i, lugs g,
and dowels r, with the clamps C, having the hook, d, shoulders c, and slot f, and the keys E, substantially as and for the purposes set forth and described.
3. In combination with box B, box A, having lugsa a, arranged in pairs, cover D, having lugs g 9', also arranged in pairs above the lugs a a, and provided with upwardly-turned ends h h, clamps 0, provided with lateral arms ee, slotf, and hook cl, and wedges E, all combined substantially as shown, and for the purposes described.
FRANK GEORGE HUGHES.
