Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an apparatus for dyeing skeins of yarn.
  • the apparatus is of the kind consisting of a preferably cylindrical container with a cross-section of radial symmetry in which there is provided a loose frame for yarn bars on which the yarn may be hung and which is provided with means for circulating the dye.
  • the known apparatus of this kind for example that disclosed in Danish Pat. No. 73,417, have been highly efiective in regard to producing a uniform and homogenous dyeing of the yarn, but since the frame for the yarn bars is designed in such manner that the bars are located centrally around a propeller and therefore are of circular arc form in the structurally most convenient embodiment of the apparatus, which has a cylindrical container, they are less suitable for dyeing certain newer types of yarn manufactured in larger skeins than previously used. Owing to the large skeins, it is, in fact, impossible to utilize the full length of the bars, more particularly when the bars are of short length, since the length cannot be a multiple of the width of the large skeins. The skeins have therefore either to be compressed or to hang spaced apart, by which the apparatus is unevenly packed with yarn, which, again, involves uneven dyeing of it.
  • the bars may be made longer than in the known apparatus, so that they may be brought to conform to an integral number of large skeins, and, if all the bars are identical, simultaneously with preserving the possibility of filling out the container space with yarn equally uniform as when the bars are designed as concentric circular arcs.
  • the capacity of the apparatus may be fully utilized, also for dyeing large skeins, without impairing the homogenous and uniform dyeing.
  • the bars have to be placed in the frame in such manner that they are either removable or detachable at least at one end.
  • the bars may appropriately be attached to the frame at the end pointing towards the central part of the apparatus.
  • the frame for the bars of a very simple form as it may consist of a tubular member only, adapted to be arranged centrally in the container above a propeller provided at the bottom of same, the other end of the bars being simultaneously free for removal and suspension of skeins as soon as the frame is lifted out of the container.
  • the bars according to the invention are preferably pivotally attached to the frame, for example by means of a hinge, so that they may be turned away from each other, thus facilitating the removal and the suspension of the skeins.
  • the free ends of the bars may, if necessary, be provided with means keeping them at a definite distance from the container wall so as to avoid that the bars wedge the outer skeins against the container wall, or the bars may be pivotally attached to the frame by means of hinges which may be locked in such position that the free ends of the bars do not reach the container wall.
  • the bars are detachable.
  • the apparatus may similarly as the known apparatus have either a single set of bars on which the skeins are freely suspended, or two sets of bars, each passing through its separate ends of the skeins and keeping them extended.
  • the latter embodiment is more suitable for most kinds of yarn and has further the advantage that the direction of circulation of the dye is immaterial.
  • the invention is further illustrated in the drawing, which is a schematic representation of a part of a yam dyeing apparatus according to the invention, viewed from above.
  • the apparatus consists of a cylindrical container 1 at the bottom of which there is a propeller 2 for circulating the dye.
  • a frame 3 for the bars is provided centrally in the container 1 in the form of a tube, yarn bars 4 curved like circle involutes being pivotally attached to flanges of the frame 3 by means of hinges 5.
  • the free end of the yarn bars is provided with a distance member 6 to prevent the end of the bar and consequently the skein hanging at the extreme end from being wedged against the inner wall of the container.
  • An apparatus for dyeing skeins of yarn consisting of a preferably cylindrical container with a cross-section of radial symmetry in which there is provided a loose frame for bars on which the yarn may be hung, the said apparatus being provided with means for circulating the dye, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the yarn bars are formed as circle involutes and placed on the frame for the bars in such manner as to extend from the center of the container towards the container wall.
