4 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures METHOD FOR PREVENTING THE DEF ORMATION OF FOLDED NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES ETC. DURING THE TRANSPORT THEREOF IN FLAKELIKE SUPERPOSED STACKS Folded newspapers, magazines etc. do not usually show a sharp line but a more or less rounded folding line. During the transport of these newspapers, magazines etc. in flakelike superpos'ed stacks, it may occur that, due to their low rigidity, the folded newspapers, magazines etc. are deformed by the stacking, whereby the folding line e.g. may be displaced. 7
It has already been proposed that the newspapers be transported in an angular configuration in which they are stiffened, rather than in the usual configuration. In this way, the folded segments cannot get out of place in relation to each other and the folding line cannot be altered respectively. Such a transport of newspapers in angular configuration, however, is complicated and cannot always be carried out and applied.
When applying the method in accordance with the present iivention, the folded newspapers, magazines etc. will be stiffen'ed and prevented from deformation during the transport thereof in flakelike superposed stacks. This holds true even for the transport in flat configuration. For this purpose and in accordance with the present invention, at least one folding score is formed on the folding line of said folded newspapers, magazines etc. for increasing the rigidity thereof.
FIG. 1 is a view in perspective showing one embodiment of folded newspapers, magazines, or the like being processed along a moving conveyor according to this invention; and
FIG. 2 is a view in perspective showing a second embodiment .of folded newspapers, magazines, or the like being processed along a moving conveyor according to this invention.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, one folding score 4 is formed in the middle of said folding line 2 of newspapers, magazines or the like 1 by pressure means, such as roller 3, as shown in FIG. 1.
In another preferred embodiment of the invention, several folding scores 4', 4", 4" are formed uniformly spaced over folding line 2 of newspapers, magazines or the like 1 by pressure means such as rollers 3', 3", 3".
The score 4 or scores 4, 4", 4" are preferably formed by pressure means, such as rollers 3, 3, 3", 3. When passing the newspapers, magazines etc. 1 through said pressure means 3, 3', 3", 3", one score 4, 4, 4", 4" each is formed on the folding lines 2.
I claim 1. A method for preventing the deformation of folded newspapers, magazines etc, during the transport thereof in flakelike superposed stacks, characterized in that at least one folding score is formed at an angle to a folding line of said folded newspapers, magazines etc. for increasing the rigidity thereof.
2. A method in accordance with claim 1, characterized in that one folding score is formed in the middle of said folding line.
3. A method in accordance with claim 1, characterized in that several folding scores are formed, said scores being uniformly spaced over said folding line.
4. A method in accordance with claim-l, characterized in that said folded newspapers, magazines etc. pass through pressure means, such as rollers, for forming said folding score or scores.
