MECHANICALLY HELD INNER KNIVES OF SHEARHEADS OUTSIDE SAID HEADS ON ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL SHAVERS The present invention relates to mechanical means to hold the inner knives of shavers outside the outer shearhead member for convenient cleaning of said knives. Such shearheads comprise a hollow outer member with a cutting surface and an inner cutter member located within said outer member and movable relative thereto. More particularly this invention relates to shearheads of the kind in which the outer hollow cutting member, which may be straight or curved in longitudinal profile, has the inner cutting knife reciprocally moving back and forth in the outer hollow cutting head. It is known that the inner cutting knives can be best cleaned and also the outer cutting head, when the inner knives are removed from the outer cutting head. To do this it is necessary to release first the pin 7, which moves the shearhead knife back and forth. When the inner knife is outside the outer cutting head, said knife has to be supported, preferably on both ends, in order to have said knife in a convenient cleaning position and to be able to bring 'it back into the outer cutting member very quickly, without holding each knife by hand.
These are the objects of my invention. Other objects and advantages of the invention will be become apparent from the description now to follow of a prefered embodiment thereof, in which reference will be had to the accompanying drawing in which FIG. 1 is a front view of said device.
FIG. 2 is a detail of a part in FIG. 1 which releases and locks the driving pin 7.
FIG. 3 refers to the similar FIG. 1, with the inner cutter knife taken out of the hollow shearhead member.
FIG. 4 is another embodiment of this invention, in front view designed for longer shearheads.
FIG. Sis a side view of FIG. 3.
As shown in FIG. 1, 3 and 4, a shearhead 5 is attached to a shaver casing 28. The shearhead 5 has an inner cutting knife 20. FIG. 1, 3 and 4 show the inner knife with dotted lines inside the outer cutting member and how it can be moved, seen in FIG. 3 and 4 from the inside position of the shearhead to an outside position, outside of said shearhead. It should be understood that the shaver casing may also support a plurality of shearheads.
In FIG. 1 a shearhead is mounted on the shaver casing 28. The inner cutting knife 20 is seen with dotted lines inside the outer shearhead member. Said inner cutter knife 20 has at its base, in the middle an opening. In said opening the driving pin is pressed with its top by spring 4 S. Spring 4 S pushes up a shoulder 4 C which is part ofthe driving pin 25. When the handwheel 4, which is outside the shaver casing, 28, is turned clockwise, bolt 4 A on said handwheel pushes down said shoulder 4 C and with it pushes down the driving pin 25 and out of engagement with the inner cutter knife 20.
When the wheel 4 is with its bolt 4 A vertically directly under the axis of wheel 4, the driving pin 25 is locked in its position.
In FIG. 2 we see in a side view knob 4, as also seen in FIG. 1. On this knob 4 is bolt 4 A which in FIG. 1 pushes down and out of engagement with the inner cutter knife the driving pin FIG. 3 is a front view similar to FIG. 1, with the inner cutter knife taken out of the hollow shearhead member. We see also slide 19 supporting the inner cutter knife 20 in its position outside the hollow shearhead member. On the drawn out slide 19 is at its right end attached a haircatcher 21. On the hollow shearhead member such a haircatcher 21 A is attached with a hinge.
FIG. 4 is a front view of the same invention designed for longer shearheads. We also see that the inner end of slide 19 has a nose 24 which touches, when the slide 19 is in its outside position, stop 23 and prevents slide 19 from falling out of the outer shearhead member 5, when the slide 19 is pulled out completely. Number 21 B is again a haircatcher also 21 A and number 26 denotes a handle with which slide 19 is pulled out of shearhead member 5.
Slide 19 carries in FIG. 4 a standard size inner knife 20.
However, the slide 19 is considerably longer, so it will carry also longer shearheads.
FIG. Sis a sectional view of FIG. 1, 3 and 4. We see slide 19 inside the outer shearhead member 5. We also see a supporting rod 27, which will slide out with the slide 19 and hold its end rigidly in position. Such a supporting rod member 27 may be attached to the slide 19 on one or both sides. FIG. 5 shows such a rod 27 on both sides of slide 19. However if a tough material like stainless steel is used to make slide 19, the above mentioned rod 27 may be eliminated.
Not shown in the drawings is how lever 25 A is oscillating. Oscillating is also driving pin 25 which is solidly attached to lever 25 A. And lever 25 A is oscillated by a cam which is mounted on the motor shaft.
In operation the great advantage with these constructions is, that knife 20, when it is outside hollow shearhead member 5 and cleaned by hand with a brush, can be pushed back into members very quickly and accurately by pushing slide 19 back to its original position. It is understood that the construction for flat, curved or shearheads arranged in an angle towards each other, may be a little different, however the thought of the invention remains the same. This invention is especially useful for shavers with a plurality of shearheads. It is much easier to clean a plurality of inner knives 20, when they are in a convenient cleaning position outside member 5, than to take each knife separately out of the shearheads by hand. Also one stroke of the cleaning brush can go over a plurality of knives and clean them much faster. Also the bringing back of all knives into the outer hollow shearhead members will save much time. For instance with a Triplex shaver with three heads with one flip back of slide 19 all three knives are immediately inside the outer shearhead members. In other words the invention is a considerable time saving device in the shaving operation. We have to understand that inner knives which are not cleaned very well will not cut well.
What I claim is:
l. A mechanical shaver comprising a shearhead having a hollow outer shearhead member, a reciprocating cutter positionable within said outer member for bearing against the inner cutting surface of said outer member for shaving and positionable substantially without but attached to said outer member for cleaning said cutter, drive means for said cutter including a retractable drive pin, means connected to said drive pin for biasing said pin into driving engagement with said cutter member, slide means on said shearhead for said cutter to permit said cutter to be substantially removed from said slide and said outer member to prevent separation thereof and means for disengaging said drive pin from said cutter.
2. The shaver as defined in claim 1 wherein the disengaging means includes a handwheel, a shoulder on said drive pin, and means on said handwheel for engaging said shoulder to thereby move said drive pin out of engagement with said cutter upon rotation of said handwheel.
3. The shaver as defined in claim 2 wherein the means on said handwheel is a pin or the like eccentrically mounted with respect to the axis of the handwheel whereby, when said pin or the like is rotated to position vertically below said axis the disengaging means becomes locked in position.
