Abstract

A hot tank for parts degreasing in which a bottom wall is spaced above gas burners which are surrounded by side walls to direct the flow of heat across the bottom wall and up along an outwardly sloping end wall. The degreasing tank contains a degreasing fluid which is heated by the gas burners. Parts degreased in the degreasing fluid can be hung on the end walls so as to be dried by the heat flowing upwardly from the gas burners.

2. Summary of thelnvention A degreasing tank is provided with a bottom wall spaced above the supporting surface and above gas burners supported on the supporting surface. The tank has side walls arranged around the gas burners to direct the heat from the gas burners across the bottom wall and up along outwardly sloping end walls to heat the contents of the degreaser tank. Parts which have been degreased in-the degreasing tank may be hung on the outwardly sloping end walls so as to be dried by the heat flowing upwardly from the gas burners.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a degreasing tank for parts which will quickly andefficiently heat the degreasing fluid while providing a hot gas stream for drying the degreased parts. 7 V
Other objects and advantages will become apparent in the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawings.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several fiugres the reference numeral indicates generally a degreasing tank constructed in accordance with the invention.
The degreasing tank 10 includes a pair of generally rectangular upright side walls 11, 12 arranged in spaced apart parallel relation. The side wall 11 is provided with a pair of generally rectangular notches 13, 14 opening upwardly therein from the lower edge of the side wall 11.
A generally rectangular bottom wall 15 somewhat shorter than the side walls 11 and 12 is secured to the side walls 11, 12 in upwardly spaced parallel relation to the bottom edges of the side walls 11, 12. The bottom wall 15 is positioned above the notches 13, 14 as can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 3.
A transverse partition 16 is secured to thebottom of the bottom wall 15 and has its opposite ends secured to the side wallsl I, 12 intermediate the notches 13, 14.
An upwardly and outwardly sloping end wall 17 has its lower end secured to one end of the bottom wall 15 and its opposite sides secured to the side walls 11, 12. An upwardly and outwardly sloping end wall 18 has its bottom edge secured to the bottom wall 15 and its side edges secured to the side walls 11, 12. The end walls 17, 18 have their upper edges aligned with the upper edges of the side walls 1 1, 12.
A generally rectangular diffuser plate 19 is secured to the side walls 1 1, l2 and slopes inwardly and upwardly toward the lower portion of the end wall 17 with its upper edge 20 spaced outwardly from the end wall 17. A spacer member 21 extends from the upper edge 20 of the diffuser plate 19 to the end wall 17 to assist in maintaining the diffuser plate 19 in spaced relation with respect thereto.
A generally rectangular diffuser plate 22 has its opposite ends secured to the side walls 11, 12 and slopes inwardly and upwardly from one end of the side walls 11, 12 toward the lower end portion of the end wall 18. The upper edge 23 of the diffuser plate 22 is spaced outwardly from the lower portion of the end wall 18 and a spacer member 24 extends between the upper edge 23 and the end wall 18 to support the center of the diffuser plate 22.
Gas burners 25, 26 are positioned on opposite sides of the artition 16 below the bottom wall 15 and gas conduits 27 exend outwardly therefrom through the notches l3, 14 to a source of heating gas (not shown). The tank 10 is welded together to provide a leak proof container for degreasing chemical fluids contained therein.-
In the use and operation of the invention the gas burners 25, 26 are ignited and the products of combustion along with heated air flow across the bottom wall 15 away from the partition 16 and out through the space between the end walls 17, 18 and the upper edges 20, 23 of the diffuser plates 19, 22 respectively. The hot gases flow upwardly along the outwardly sloping end walls 17, 18 to quickly and uniformly heat the degreasing chemical fluids in the tank 10. Parts to be degreased are suspended in the tank 10 from conventional hooks and are left in the hot chemicals until degreasing is complete where upon they are removed and hung on the outer face of the end walls 17, 18 to be dried by the hot gases flowing upwardly therealong to thus prevent rusting of the degreased parts.
The tank 10 may be drained as required for renewal of the chemical fluids therein by means of a drain nipple 28 secured in the side wall 11 and closed with a cap 29 at the outer end thereof.
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of the invention it should be understood that numerous structural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
l. A degreasing tank comprising a bottom wall having a pair of burner chambers formed therebeneath, a pair of upstanding side walls secured to said bottom wall, a pair of upwardly and outwardly sloping end walls secured to said bottom wall and said side walls, means for directing hot gases from said burner chambers upwardly along said upwardly and outwardly sloping end walls, said burner chambers including the lower portions of said side walls extending below said bottom wall and a partition wall positioned below said bottom wall and extending between said side walls, said means for directing the hot gases upwardly along said end walls comprising a diffuser plate adjacent the lower end of each of said end walls and extending between said side walls, said diffuser plates sloping inwardly and upwardly and having their upper edges spaced outwardly from the lower ends of said end walls.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said end walls are flat and generally rectangular in form and said diffuser plates are flat and generally rectangular in form.

Claims (2)

1. A degreasing tank comprising a bottom wall having a pair of burner chambers formed therebeneath, a pair of upstanding side walls secured to said bottom wall, a pair of upwardly and outwardly sloping end walls secured to said bottom wall and said side walls, means for directing hot gases from said burner chambers upwardly along said upwardly and outwardly sloping end walls, said burner chambers including the lower portions of said side walls extending below said bottom wall and a partition wall positioned below said bottom wall and extending between said side walls, said means for directing the hot gases upwardly along said end walls comprising a diffuser plate adjacent the lower end of each of said end walls and extending between said side walls, said diffuser plates sloping inwardly and upwardly and having their upper edges spaced outwardly from the lower ends of said end walls.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said end walls are flat and generally rectangular in form and said diffuser plates are flat and generally rectangular in form.
