FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my tool in use in stretching wire;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of my tool in use in removing staples;
FIG. 3 is a side view of my tool;
FIG. 4 is a top view of my tool;
FIG. 5 is a cross section through line 5-5 in FIG. 3; and
FIG. 6 is an enlarged detail side view of a portion of my tool.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-6, an elongated first member 10 has an enlarged end 12 with a transverse bore 14 therein accessible via transverse slot 16 communicating therewith and thumbscrew 18 for constricting the bore as required. A coplanar semicircular post heel 20 extends outward from end 12. The remainder of member 10 has a longitudinal bore 22 communicating with opposite open end 24 and also has opposite longitudinal slots 26 communicating with the bore.
An elongated second member 28 has a blunt end 30 slidable in bore 22 with a transverse pin 32 disposed in slots 26 to hold the members together. The other end of member 28 terminates in a curved sharp tip 34. A bumper heel in the form of another transverse pin 36 extending at right angles to pin 32 is disposed in member 28 intermediate the ends.
In order to stretch wire, heel 20 engages post 40, with the wire 42 disposed in bore 22 and screw 18 tightened to hold the wire. Then the members are pressed around the post until the wire is stretched.
To remove staples 44, tip 34 is inserted gently under the edge of a staple and member 10 is reciprocated back and forth to strike bumper heel (pin 36) until the tip is under the post. Then the staple is removed by pushing the members gently around the post.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
What is claimed is:
l. A tool adapted for removing staples from fence posts and for stretching wire in relation to posts comprising:
a first-elongated member having a wire clamp at one end and an opposite end with an opening communicating with a longitudinal bore therein;
a post-engaging element extending from said one end of the first member; and
a second elongated member having one end slidable in said bore and an opposite end having a curved sharp tip;
the said clamp having a transverse bore, a slot communicating with said transverse bore and a thumbscrew for constricting the transverse bore.
2. A tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first member has a pair of oppositely disposed longitudinal slots communicating with the longitudinal bore, and said one end of the second member has a transverse pin engaging the longitudinal slots.
3. A tool as set forth in claim 2 wherein said post heel takes the form of a semicircle.
4. A tool as set forth in claim 3 further including a second transverse pin in the second member intermediate its ends and at right an es to the other pin.
5. A too adapted to remove staples from posts and stretch wire in relation to posts comprising:
an elongated member having: a longitudinal bore at one end; and, at an opposite end portion, a wire clamp having a transverse bore, a slot in said end portion adapted to permit insertion of a wire thru it and into said transverse bore, a screwthreaded hole extending into and at an angle with said transverse bore, and a wire-clamping member having screwthreads fitting in said hole, adapted to constrict the transverse bore and clampingly hold said wire;
a post-engaging element fixed to said opposite end portion;
and a second elongated member having one end slidable in said longitudinal bore and an opposite end having a tip adapted to remove staples from a post.
6. A tool as set forth in claim 5, in which said tip is curved and sharp.
7. A tool as set forth in claim 5, in which said post-engaging element has a curved surface adapted to extend around a substantial portion of a post.
8. A tool, as set forth in claim 7, in which said tip is curved and sharp.
